What impact does this city have on the Rockets style of play?

I have been asking myself the following question. Can Houston switch styles of play and still win, or does the city of Houston require that the Rockets play a certain style of basketball? How much influence does a city have on it's team?

Some cities seem to require a certain style of play. Like the Knicks. They get down and dirty. They refuse to let creampuffs play on their team because they know NY has a brand of basketball they must adhere to. The Lakers. It's Showtime or lose time. Perhaps the only way for Houston to win a title is to play post up offense and shoot the threes. I beg the question, can this city adapt to a new offense?

It appears the Houston Rockets are moving toward a faster, more guard oriented offense that relys on creativity as opposed to reactivity. Perhaps this is a bad idea. Houston may not be the type of city that can play anything other than underdog, dump it in, dump it out, three point shootin ball. Maybe that's the only way this city knows how to win. Just wondering. I live in DC of course. So what do I know about it anyway.

I think that the only prerequisite that this city places on the Rockets is the same one placed on it's other teams. We prefer hard working overachievers. I think we have gotten used to players like Biggio, Bagwell, Ray Childress, Earl Cambell, and Hakeem. The one thing they seem to have in common is that they do whatever it takes and never put themselves before the team. It seems that Houstonians have a low tolerance for players that don't seem to bring it every game. I know that this would seem the same for other cities but I see players for other teams, that while they have decent skills, don't seem to have the intensity every game. This wouldn't fly around here. I suppose this is why no one cried when Horry was traded. If you need a clear example just look at Derek Bell. While he was a decent player and an above average fielder, the city never warmed to him. However they like him just fine in New York. I guess people in some cities can tolerate players that have excuses as to why they couldn't succeed. Random answer but I guess the question is somewhat random as well.

NBC execs know that we are one of the top highlight reel teams in the league, and it's only going to get better. We are right up there with LA and Toronto for highlight footage.
I don't think anyone in Houston can complain about the new style of play we have going, especially since we also win playing this way.

It doesn't hurt that all of the Rocket's young players work and hustle their collective a$$'s off AND are spectacular players. Except Cato...

The fans don't seem to like "dirty play" much . It's not that we don't appreciat tough -- people like the players to stand up for themselves when they get stepped on, but they have a low tolerance for players who take stupid penalties.

You are right. The best player is one who works hard and wins. I don't think the fans care much about a specific offense -- provided it WORKS!
