I realize that the chance of this happening is so minute.....but it has to be pondered upon. If Yao Ming opted out of his contract after this year and chose to become a free agent it would probably have the biggest impact this franchise has seen in the last decade. How would the face of the Rockets change if Yao Ming opted out...? How would our 2010 pursuit of free agents change ?
these are the type of questions that will be asked in 2010 for sure. I totally agree with you One slight problem its still 2009
have you watched this season? we've already in the process of this. this team will keep on plugging with no problems.
it would be great actually. The Rockets will go after a non-injury-prone superstar and us poor fans will finally enjoy watching a team with a superstar on the court, not on the bench.
If Yoa would leave the Rockets it would be one of the biggest setbacks to the organization that has ever happend. Yoa ming is one of the greatest things to happen to this organization and not only would the rockets be in need of major center, they would loose such a large fan base it would be very sad.
I think that word is somewhat utopian. There is only 'less injury prone'. Injuries are part of the pro game.
Setback on the field ? I would hardly consider losing Yao a setback on the court when with his salary gone we could focus on free agents who have proven they can stay healthy through out the regular season and playoffs. Greatest things to happen to this franchise ? Hardly in my opinion....Yao Ming coming to Houston has done nothing but enlarge a fan base. Losing a fan base ? If people are just fans of the Rockets due to Yao Ming I'd be glad to see them gone. You put your team before an individual player.
I love Yao, but can you imagine having 40+ million more on the court right now. We could sign two big name free agents. Can you see Lebron and Johnson on the floor together? Scary!!!!!
let me re-word it: we'll get a player who has functional legs and feet that can support his body weight for an entire season.
i would fcking love it if yao opted out. more money to sign someone that can stay on the court for longer than half a season. good player or not, he's injury prone.
i hope he leaves he's setting back this ballclub the only positive he brings is cash and more fans worldwide he doesn't help win us ball games
I'm not certain about the ramifications on the salary cap. Would the Rockets still hold his bird rights? meaning they can re-sign him even if they're over the cap? Is there any cap hold for Yao as an unrestricted FA? If that's the case then it'd be great for the Rockets, they can afford a max FA without renouncing Scola and Lowry, and they should be able to resign Yao to a longer deal, if they want. That's also the only way Yao opts out, there's got to be some sort of agreement that he'll get a long term deal, maybe for less annual money.
