I don't wanna spoil it for you guys...but it is plausible Watching him for the past couple of years, do you think he'll be a bust or not? Sure the guy has lotsa UPSIDE but it's been 5 FREAKING YEARS...I sure hope he turns out to be more of a J O'neal than a Eddie Griffin Swift-Lovers flame away.... you can add the BBQ sauce if he does pan out
Most of them unnecessary. What if we bring in Walker and he turns the ball over like crazy and takes a bunch of ill-advised shots and doesn't play defense? What if we bring in Shareef and his rebounding continues to get worse and he gets destroyed on defense and he take up too much space in the low post offensively? What if we bring in Kwame and he continues to be lazy and selfish? What if, by some miracle, we're able to get Tyson Chandler and his back problems flair up?
Swift: 10.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg Nachbar: 8.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg One of these players is a bust. One is the solution to all of our problems.
You just listed the reasons we should not "Impulse spend" , we should not panic and we must be patient. The best candidate for us at PF is not available at this moment. So we need to get the best VALUE. We need an interim fix. Personally I think Swift will be a huge dissappointment. Not because he can't dunk and rebound. But because he doesn't have the fire and consistency to be an upgrade over J Howard which we already needed to upgrade. He is a human highlight reel not a consistantly strong PF
I don't necessarily agree with this either though. There will always be questions marks, no matter who we bring in to play the 4. I feel like some people would only be satisfied if we paulled a Spurs-esque tank job and drafted the next Garnett in the lottery. No, on second thought, if we drafted the next Garnett people would be saying he's too skinny. That said, if we do bring in a stopgap solution at PF, Joe Smith would appeal to me the most.
What if Yao gets involved with the chinese maffia and gets his legs broke? What if T-Mac overdraws his checking account and is put in jail for forgery? What if Eddie Griffin goes nuts and decides to shoot up the Rocket's offices? If there were no "what-ifs" then every team would make perfect decisions every time, and every game would end up in a tie. Then again, if Swift sucks CD will say "Well, we knew it a gamble, but it was either get him or bring back Barkley, and we didn't feel like we could afford enough donuts for Barkley and stay under the Luxury Tax...."
Nice comparison, but you might want to add a few more stats. Swift 10.1 PPG .468 FG% 4.6 RPG 1.53 BPG Nachbar 8.1 PPG .382 FG% 2.8 RPG If Swift doesn't work out then that would be too bad. But at worst I think he'll be another kelvin Cato. This team could use a Kelvin Cato's rebounding and shot blocking ability right now.
I heard some Grizz fans basically all give him the same grade- athletic underacheiver who shows up for some games and is out hustled others. - If JVG can get throught to him fine, but there are alot of Swifts in the NBA who have the POTENTIAL and don't produce. Cato started to come around under JVG so who knows. I wouldn't want to make him the next MOTay but he has the potential also. Underacheiver is not what we want to sink to much into. I think we need a lot tougher rebounder and defender than Swift. I know he could become a monster, but we are very soft up front. One of our biggest weaknesses in my opinion is not how many rebounds we get but how many tough rebonds we get, important rebounds. Sura was our toughest rebounder in my opinion and that doesn't put a good light on our front court. Yao may get 9 reb but he misses alot of the tough ones. I think our ideal PF is an enforcer- tough guy
Shady, my point wasn't that Swift and BUSTjan are equivalent players -- they're obviously not. That was just my way of saying that Swift isn't worth the kind of money he's asking for. Walker is a proven commodity whom we could get at below-market value. Swift wants above-market money based pretty much on potential -- in my eyes, that wouldn't be a very good business move.
Yeah, I'm not quite sold on Swift either. In all honesty, he looks like this year's version of Eric Dampier to me. There's an awful lot of hysteria and anxiety over the PF position going on here right now. A lot of it is coming from the same folks who were dead certain that Juwann Howard was the answer 2 years ago and that losing Cato was "no big deal" and now they are ready to run just about anyone in here (Antoine Walker to Eddie Griffin). This is not the time to make another Mo Taylor mistake. If the right PF is not available, I'd rather them wait and plug some of the other holes on the team. Patience is the watchword here: You just never know who might become available by the trading deadline.
I am not too excited about a 9-5 guy, and after five years in the league. This guy has proven little. Certainly doesn't deserve a big payday.
With our expiring contracts, waiting on the trade deadline may end up being our best course of action for filling one or our holes. At a minimum, we must get a backup for JH this summer; this cannot wait. If Swift is a bust, we may be able to trade him with a 5 year MLE contract. If we give him 5yrs/$40MM+, we will be stuck with another Motay.
LOL, that's so damn funny. I just wanted to put in some what-ifs for Yao and TMac, of course not as drastic as yours, so I'll just spare mine
