Okay, I know that was a stupid question. But, what if he is right about the teams & main players mentioned, actively discussing a trade? With Malone's & Howard's contracts, there would have to be a lot of players involved to make it work. I can't possibly see Denver giving up LaFrentz & receiving Howard in return, so I worked up 3 different trades that involved Howard going to Utah instead. Tell me what you think. Trade #1 Dallas trades: Shawn Bradley $4,500,000 to Denver Dallas trades: Juwan Howard $18,750,000 to Utah TOTAL: $23,250,000 Denver trades: Tariq Abdul-Wahad $5,062,500 to Utah (BYC Value $3,796,875) Denver trades: Raef LaFrentz $3,755,142 to Dallas Denver trades: Nick Van Exel $9,093,750 to Golden State TOTAL: $17,911,392 Golden State trades: Danny Fortson $4,441,558 to Utah Golden State trades: Larry Hughes $2,343,635 to Denver Golden State trades: Marc Jackson $3,250,000 to Denver TOTAL: $10,035,193 Utah trades: Quincy Lewis $1,070,280 to Golden State Utah trades: Karl Malone $17,500,000 to Dallas Utah trades: Donyell Marshall $6,510,000 to Denver Utah trades: John Starks $2,475,000 to Dallas TOTAL: $27,555,280 TRADE ACCEPTED Trade #2 Dallas trades: Shawn Bradley $4,500,000 to Denver Dallas trades: Juwan Howard $18,750,000 to Utah TOTAL: $23,250,000 Denver trades: Nick Van Exel $9,093,750 to Golden State Denver trades: Raef LaFrentz $3,755,142 to Dallas Denver trades: Tariq Abdul-Wahad $5,062,500 to Utah (BYC Value $3,796,875) TOTAL: $17,911,392 Golden State trades: Marc Jackson $3,250,000 to Denver Golden State trades: Larry Hughes $2,343,635 to Denver Golden State trades: Adonal Foyle $4,400,000 to Utah (BYC Value $3,300,000) TOTAL: $9,993,635 Utah trades: John Starks $2,475,000 to Dallas Utah trades: Donyell Marshall $6,510,000 to Denver Utah trades: Karl Malone $17,500,000 to Dallas Utah trades: Quincy Lewis $1,070,280 to Golden State TOTAL: $27,555,280 TRADE ACCEPTED Trade #3 Which I could never see Denver doing. Dallas trades: Shawn Bradley $4,500,000 to Denver Dallas trades: Juwan Howard $18,750,000 to Utah TOTAL: $23,250,000 Denver trades: Tariq Abdul-Wahad $5,062,500 to Utah (BYC Value $3,796,875) Denver trades: Raef LaFrentz $3,755,142 to Dallas Denver trades: Nick Van Exel $9,093,750 to Golden State TOTAL: $17,911,392 Golden State trades: Adonal Foyle $4,400,000 to Utah (BYC Value $3,300,000) Golden State trades: Marc Jackson $3,250,000 to Denver Golden State trades: Bob Sura $4,913,334 to Denver TOTAL: $12,563,334 Utah trades: Quincy Lewis $1,070,280 to Golden State Utah trades: Karl Malone $17,500,000 to Dallas Utah trades: Donyell Marshall $6,510,000 to Denver Utah trades: John Starks $2,475,000 to Dallas TOTAL: $27,555,280 TRADE ACCEPTED One things for sure, with these trades, Dallas would be unstoppable. These are not likely to be even close to what might be being discussed, after all, Vescey reported it. Here's the link to the Nugget players rebuttals. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nuggets/article/0,1299,DRMN_20_895793,00.html Nuggets deny report of trade involving Van Exel By Aaron J. Lopez, News Staff Writer Nick Van Exel checked his pager and returned the long-distance call from Houston Rockets guard Steve Francis. "Are you going to Golden State, son?" Francis asked his friend. "I don't know. I haven't heard nothing yet," Van Exel replied. Not surprisingly, Van Exel still was waiting Sunday after his name surfaced as part of the latest trade rumor involving the Denver Nuggets. According to NBC basketball analyst Peter Vescey, Denver was part of a four-team trade that -- among other things -- would send center Raef LaFrentz to Utah and Van Exel to Golden State. "I'll retire first," Van Exel said. "Please send me to a playoff team. That's all I ask." Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe denied any talks involving Van Exel, and coach Dan Issel just smirked when asked about Vescey. "He has no credibility with me," Issel said. LaFrentz, who is in the final year of his contract, has been the subject of trade speculation since he and the Nuggets could not agree to an extension in October. Because of his pending free-agent status, LaFrentz expects to hear his name mentioned in potential deals throughout the season. "Whatever," he said. "(Vescey) must have heard it from somebody somewhere along the line. Whatever." LaFrentz is averaging 13.3 points and 7.8 rebounds, numbers that were boosted Friday night when he reached season highs of 26 points and 15 rebounds. The performance prompted Issel to seek out LaFrentz before practice Sunday. "I said, 'The reason I stay on you is that game Friday night. That should be commonplace for Raef LaFrentz,' " Issel said. "That shouldn't be the exception."
It seems like Dallas gets waaaaaay to much in all 3. Oh, well, good job. I can't believe you have the patience to do that.
wow, alot of stuff. props for at least taking the time. trade 1 : thats a lot better than what ive seen. i dont like jackson but hughes, marshall and bradley give us some solid players (although we give up alot). trade 2 : looks exaclty the same from denvers perspective. trade 3 : a little worse as we get sura instead of hughes. loved van exels quote!
It seems that this rumor won't die. There might be something to it after all. http://basketball.dallasnews.com/mavs/STORY.ea963b1882.b0.af.0.a4.51f25.html Deal for Malone still a possibility Source: Mavericks can land Utah forward if he asks Jazz to trade him 12/05/2001 By MARC STEIN / The Dallas Morning News LOS ANGELES – The Mavericks believe they have a shot to acquire Karl Malone in spite of their public denials, according to sources, as long as Malone urges Utah to trade him. But the Mavericks also know it would have to be a three- or four-team trade, even if Malone pushes it and the Jazz complies, to bring Utah the young talent it craves, the sources said. Those complexities are a major reason why the Mavericks won't acknowledge the trade talks publicly. Because it will be so tough to satisfy multiple teams' demands in such a deal, Dallas doesn't want to speak openly of its interest in Malone – thereby alienating Juwan Howard if it doesn't happen. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has repeatedly insisted that there's "nothing close" on the trade front. Howard would have to be involved in the trade because his salary ($18.75 million) is a close match with Malone's ($17.5 million). "Juwan has blocked it out great, all the Karl Malone stuff," said guard Tim Hardaway, one of three Chicago natives on Dallas' roster along with Howard and Michael Finley. "He's been through this before in Washington." Finley, while acknowledging that he couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to play with Malone, said Sunday that "it's still way too early to make any major moves like that." Added Finley: "I'm pretty biased, but I want Juwan to be here with me." Hardaway said Tuesday that it's "an unwritten rule" in NBA locker rooms for players not to discuss trade speculation. When asked to comment, Hardaway questioned: "Where would [Malone] fit on this team? "I don't think this is the team for him to fit in," Hardaway said.
As a MAVS fan I would love for any of those trades to take place. They would put both Malone, and LaFrenz in a Dallas uni. Unfortunately I doubt the trade/trades will go down that way but it is nice to dream. PG - Nash SG - Finley SF - Dirk PF - Malone C - LaFrenz Damn that would be nice.
Vescey might be right, and I might go to sleep and wake up next to a pair of buxom young co-eds, but I'm not holding my breath.
