think about it. YES, it IS possible as hard as that is to comprehend. what will all the RB/VY supporters say then. suppose 3 years from now, RB is a mediocre running back who averages 3 yards/carry b/c he can't outrun an NFL defense. suppose VY's reading of NFL coverages is on par with his wunderlic score. there's no such thing as a sure thing in the NFL. i wanted the Texans to draft Reggie Bush, but i understand teh Mario Williams pick. i'm disappointed but i'm still looking forward to the season. Williams could bust too. but, what if he is the next Reggie White? who will you be pissed at then?
what if mario sucks? what if gets injured early and is never able to really effectively help us? what if the texans move to las vegas? what if the roof of reliant stadium collapses, trapping david carr's hair?
If? You mean the entire careers of all three players haven't been determined yet, that there's still some mystery? Nah. No way.
before anyone comes in and says vick about vince's running, vince isn't vick. he punishes tacklers, he's a big strong guy. I was watching the rose bowl replay and he put frostee rucker out the game for a few snaps hurting his shoulder.
what if mario sucks? that's certainly possible what if gets injured early and is never able to really effectively help us? that's certainly possible, with every player. what if the texans move to las vegas? yea, that's possible.... in 50 years. what if the roof of reliant stadium collapses, trapping david carr's hair? yea, that's very likely. the point of the thread is that your loverboy Vince Young (or RB for that matter) is not a sure thing. you act as if you've never been wrong about a player.
dammit, i didn't look far enough into the future. Reggie Bush has broken the all time total yards record and Vince Young has thrown for 4 touchdowns and ran for 3 in SuperBowl 44.
I'm still under the impression that Casserly saw Mario Willliams - DE and thought the DE stood for "does everything."
It's like this, Mario can't just be good. He has to be HOF good to put this to bed. If Vince becomes a superstar with the Houston f-ing Oilers or Reggie becomes Barry Sanders v2.0, McNair will NEVER live this down. Only chance he has is if we make the playoffs quick or Mario is another Reggie White. Evan
McNair has also been beaten up over his career with a broken sternum, back surgery, knee problems ect... he is 6'3" and 240. I like VY and all but he is not going to "punish" tacklers in the NFL, it will more likley be the other way around.
I didn't say he would, I was just giving an example of his strength, he won't be fragile. you're right, mcnair has taken a beaten, but he has taken some good shots also. the tackles that hurt mcnair mostly are sacks, like the sternum injury so that's neither here nor there.
the current situation is that "everyone" is assuming RB/VY will be great. i just want people to acknowledge that they could be wrong. assume the opposite and try to see how "great" this pick is. Mario could be the anchor of this defense for a long time and i'll be cheering when he knocks the opposing quarterback on his back 2 times a game. not to mention his presense could open up sacks for our other linemen.
no one is a sure thing. of course i've been wrong about a player before. the assumption of a thread like this would be that mario is the sure thing. damn, you guys are defensive. loverboy??? come on, man. give me a break.
mike and mike on espn radio said its just like jordan and hakeem. if reggie bush becomes everything people thought, then mario would have to be at least like hakeem, no one gives the rockets a hard time about not drafting jordan because hakeem was so great.
I think this is probably what will happen. I am sure the RB will be terrific and I think MW will be terrific. Let's say that everyone had RB rated as a 98 and MW as a 97, well we have a RB that is probably a high 80s low 90s using the same scale, but we have had S**T for a pass rush over the years. We have also had leads that have evaporated in many games in the fourth quarter as well - go back and watch how Ryan Fitzgerald looked like Tom Brady against us in the second half of the St Louis game. Both are going to be studs, but MW filled a HUGE need for us.
