What if it was the 08/09 Rockets at the Palace on 11/19/2004?

Hypothetical: Would the Malice at the Palace could have happened if Ron and Ben Wallace got into the same scuffle that they did on that night, but Ron's teammates are the current Rockets rather than the 04/05 version of the Pistons?

I am thinking "no." I can't see how the rest of the team wouldn't have grabbed Artest and calm in down right away. I also don't see how Battier or McGrady would be jumping into the stands beating guys up like Stephan Jackson, nor can I imagine Chuck Hayes and Yao Ming clocking fat Detroit fans like Jermaine O'Neal.

A few people (a small minority) have said Artest has the potential to ruin a team's season like he did with the Pacers... I just don't see how.

I could definitely see Rafer Alston giving him some company in the stands. I wouldn't call him completely stable either. Francis is another one.

That's the thing ALL THE BLAME went on Artest when in reality somebody did something to him and he responded in a way that wasn't so-called professional. Also with this current Rockets team you are right... things would have occured diffferently with our players in terms of players being there for players before fans had a chance to get involved.

Ron is Ron. No one could have stopped him. He is his own man. I don't think he will do it again, but I won't be surprised if there is a recurrence of this incident either.

Yeah Rafer, Francis, Dorsey but they don't outnumber the players that would have stepped up in terms of leadership on our team. Indiana's main players were wild our team is a big mix of all things but the combination of our team equals to smart unlike Indiana.

Yao wouldn't have done anything. Battier would have been in there trying to stop it.

Doubt T-Mac would risk injury, haha.

Rafer would have Ron's back though, Dorsey, Hayes and Landry are also possible.

Brooks would just stand in an isolated corner all alone :D

deke did charge into the stands once, at the clips. But with only 1 trip to the Palace once a year, that possibility is minute.

Rafer and Francis would both get destroyed by fans.

Yao and T-Mac would have run to the lockerroom for cover. Rafer would have been fighting the fans with Ron. Battier, Hayes, and Deke would have tried to stop the brawl and bring him down. Scola wouldn't have known what was happening. And Steve Francis would be watching in shock on the television at his home.

Shoot, I'm sure most GARM members would join forces to get Rafer. You people really dislike him.

I'm one of the few who actually like him.

But I don't seriously think that he can put a fight with those sissy arms.

Ron was pissing he's pants when wallace came towards him. lol big ben is a scary dude. he's head looks like a lion and he's built like a buffalo.BTW, the rockets are all a bunch of nice guys. they would probaly back ron against another player on the court, but noway in hell is yao or tracy are gonna follow him into the stands. yao has allready said he dosent wanna see that kind of stuff here. translation, you go into the stand, dont count on us following you.

Also only jackson who is a thug and gun slinger followed him into the stands. most sane players would just walk away.

Ron wasn't scared, he was staying away from trouble. In fact, Wallace received too short a suspension for his actions.

Basically, you have a fight with another person. You try not to fight, and you're both held back by your friends. One jackass friend of that person decides to throw a can at your head, you telling me now you can still stay cool? I don't blame Artest. Everyone has a limit, some have shorter, some have longer. Artest stayed below the limit despite Ben's "Bully type" behavior, but somebody who chucks a beer at your head is beyond disrespectful for the sport and for others. Booing is one thing, being a complete jackass is another.

I don't think this is a stupid thread. It's actually making a good point. The team is too soft and Artest brings that added edge. Conversely, the team will serve as an imediatel influence on Ron Ron during games esp if things get heated.

People always say Adeleman gets along with Artest but our "soft" team will also help Artest stay focused on basketball when things get heated. They won't be egging him on like you know Stephen Jackson was by encouraging him to "man-up" or whatever. Battier and Yao will be yelling at Artest to stay focused and play ball.

The Rockets and Artest are just what each other needed.

Now lets hope the Rockets don't turn Artest into a 10ppg guy. Too often this team acquires players and they always seem to play below their career averages.
