I think if he comes back before the playoffs he'll have a few games in the G-League to get his legs under him. After that it depends on how everything else goes, too early to say. But as of right now, I'd bet on him coming off the bench just to maintain chemistry with the starting group.
I voted Reed starts and FVV takes all of Okogies minutes. I would prefer to relegate FVV as an emergency substitution if the team is out of control or someone gets hurt, but I can’t see Ime doing that to his buddy.
If Fred is healthy, you write his name first on the board and then shape everything around him. No need to seek adventure.
Houston we have a problem. I would not sacrifice a moment of development of : Amen / Reed / Jabari Tell FVV thank you for his service and support. Blend in where you fit in. If he wants a trade we will help as long as we don’t lose our ability to maintain our youth as they come off their rookie contracts. We can revise his contract to help him find a new team. His contract will hard to move at his age and level of play without take something negative in return. This is still Stone he may get the Wall treatment. —> wait and get paid but stay out of the way. As the player president we need to “handle him”.
FVV was arguably our best player in the playoffs last year and is underrated by this board. He will not and should not be relegated to being an emergency substitution.
Reed will start and Fred will take most of Okogie's minutes but not all. Okogie will become the insurance wing defender in case of injuries. The guy is a very good defender but is limited on offense. Fred is a good defender too but not as versatile as Okogie. On the offensive side, Fred is our best ball handler and can direct offense. Reed has clearly surpassed him already.
There have been several stretches in our tough games (OKC, Denver, San Antonio, Golden State) where we needed a floor general to keep the offense from stalling out. FVV can provide this -- and that will have value to this team. But I do not see FVV as a 30+ minute per game player upon return. FVV will have to prove that he's ready to be a rotation player again. Okogie's minutes are at risk, not Reed's. GOOD DAY
In time, like hopefully weeks to months, Reed will start stepping up in times of need. A healthy Eason has this role as well.
Doubt any of these options happen though I could see Amen taking the SF spot from JSJ. Mostly, I think Capela loses his PT outside Adams rest games. I think JSJ, DFS, Okogie, and Tari end up fighting for PT, and I'm not sure Okogie is the loser. This all depends on FVV playing well. If Reed is entrenched as a starter, he will stay the starter.
Am I the only one dreading the thought of Fred returning this season? I think it would wreck the flow of the offense. Ime would never relegate him to Aaron's role. He'll get starters minutes.
