I for one think Fizer will struggle in the NBA. There just aren't many 6-7 PF that excel in the NBA with the exception of Barkley. However, if he slips all the way down to the Rockets I feel they should take a chance on him. Any other opinions?
Depends on what his actual height. Is he really 6'7" or is he 6'4" 1/2? I'd also measure his verticle and wing span. On the other hand, if he can bench press Pig Miller, i'd take a chance on him. ------------------ - hoopjunkie "when you come in da HOOD... things change."
Barkley was closer to 6'4 and a half then 6'7". I disagree with you. I think Fizer will be a good player in the league. Not because of his height or lack thereof....because of his desire and skill level. Great footwork, good shot even from the arc, and extremely strong and explosive. He will succeed if for no other reason than he will make himself. If Fizer slips to 9, I think there is no doubt we would snatch him up. I do not think he will last that long though. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
Elton Brand is undersized as well but he has excelled. Fizer may be shorter but only by an inch or 2. That's not a big difference. The more important piece is his wingspan and quickness. I saw him play UT and he dominated. I personally like Swift better but he's going to go high in the draft...if not then he may may decide to go back to LSU. It would be nice if Fizer slips to 9 but its highly unlikely. Fizer would fill the Rockets need at PF very nicely. Not only can he board and play a bit of defense but he also has an offensive game. ------------------
Do I really need to answer this question? I guess so... I think Fizer is the best player coming out, he has desire, and attitude, and great skills. He will be the best player from this draft 10 years from now. IMHO. DaDakota ------------------
According to Peter may of the Boston Globe, Fizer could slip to #9: The word is he's measuring in at 6-6. He is not expected to go 1 or 2, and, if the Clippers don't take him at 3, he could drop. Chicago (4 and 7) wouldn't need him with Elton Brand [and] the Hawks already have Alan Henderson and Lorenzo Wright at the position. If Orlando passes at 5, Fizer could drop to Houston (9). But that's a reach. And, in addition, in the words of one scout at Chicago, "He's the only guy in the draft who can draw a double team." Considering the needs of the teams ahead of us, and the rise in stock of players like Miles and Tsakalidis, Fizer could drop. BTW re. Tsakalidis, his Greek team claims he is under contract, in which case only teams under the cap would be able to buy him out of it. ------------------ If you don't remember the ABA, you don't know basketball.
P.S. May also reports that the Mavs will take Oyedeji at 12 if the Celtics pass on him at 10, saying Olumide has "rocketed into lottery contention after a standout performance at the nike Hoop Summit in April." ------------------ If you don't remember the ABA, you don't know basketball.
In response to the thread title....It'll take more than stupidity for Fizer to fall that low. ------------------
It is possible that LAC wouldn't take Fizer if Mihm is the first pick, and they get either Martin or Swift, but then why would Orlando pass on Fizer at 5? He's who they want, unless they trade for the first pick to get Martin, who they want more. But if Orlando would picked first, they would tak Martin, Vancouver picks Swift, and LAC would take Fizer. If Chicago traded up to get Mihm, then once again, Orlando would take Fizer at 5. I just don't see how it will happen. Now if Chicago traded up for the first pick to take Mihm, we might get Miles. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
The Clippers will assuredly pick him at if he is still there. They are going to lose Mo Taylor, and will have a gaping hole to fill at the 4. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
Fizer's the only guy of the potential top picks who I haven't really heard the Rockets brass talk about. Makes me wonder. ------------------ BRR
See Nikestrad's thread "More Heights". I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell that Fizer falls to 9. ------------------
If Fizer miraculously falls to #9, of course we take him. If Martin falls to #9, we take him. If Swift falls to #9, we take him. If Miles falls to #9, we take him. If Mihm falls to #9, we take him and trade him to Orlando for their #10 and #13. If Prysbilla falls to #9, we take him, then trade him to Portland for Oneal. If Miller falls to #9, we take him. If Johnson falls to #9, we take him, and convert him to a SF. If Alexander falls to #9, we take him and trade him. If Moiso falls to #9, we trade our pick. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
In Nikestrads post "more heights" he states Fizer is 6'9" with sneakers on. All other players were measured without sneakers, and when Fizer measure wihtout sneakers he was 6'6". That's either one helluva pair of high tops or a bad measurement on one count. I'd be leaning towards the 6'9" being a bad measurement. Why? Well Moiso clocked in at 7' - now was that with sneakers? Because he normally clocks in at 6'10"1/2 Anyway, my opinion, if Fizer falls to 9 then we should ONLY draft him if we can trade him straight away! ------------------
I think the Rocks should trade up to #5 at Orlando's spot and take Fizer. I don't know what to offer them, but I think that's where Fizer is gonna go. ------------------
