The only thing that worries me is if Cato gets injured as he has shown to be somewhat prone too, then all we have in regards to a real legit center is Jason Collier.... Jason Collier starts 35-45 games this season?!??!?!?!?!??! I don't have a problem with Collier starting other then its a white man in a center position starting on an NBA team and that kinda of makes me go "ugh" ... but what ideas and what kinda of lineups are we going to have with 3478 small forwards and one big goofy white boy???
Rocks faced the problem last season. They played 5 by comittee. KT, MoTay, Griffen. Rogers is now gone. Hell Air Bull even played some 5 once...that was funny. I don't think CD will let us get through the season without getting a backup 5. If he does, its cause he's got something else up his sleeve. It may not be right away, but something has to give. They know that. -krosfyah
If Cato GETS hurt, he'll have to learn how to PLAY hurt. I don't care if he's out there with one good eye, three fingers on his right hand, a twisted ankle, syphillis, and bloody stumps for legs. He's gonna EARN his paycheck, damn it. As any parent would tell you, "It'll build character."
I can't believe someone started this thread... I haven't seen any evidence that Cato is worse than Collier. And that post was borderline racist. Sabonis, Lafrentz, and Divac are all excellent centers.
Exactly what I was thinking when I read this topic. It's not if, it's when. I think his next sprained ankle could sideline him 10/12 weeks easily.
HAVEN: I started the thread, so why don't you say "jbond77 you are borderline racist", come on be a man. I agree Sabonis, Divac, and Lafrentz (who I like) are decent centers but if you are implying that by me being uncomfortable with a white center that isn't those 3 of being racist, then I'm sorry Haven, I'm gonna have to break it to ya.....White boys can't jump. Some of them can, but the league obviously is racist since theres not more then 3 decent white centers. Regardless of that moronic statement by Haven, when Cato does hurt his finger or pinch a nerve in his toenail, were gonna have some serious interior defense problems. Jason can shoot, I will give you that, but as far as at least the ability to block shots and rough it up in the paint, I just don't think he can hang. Now were trading for Glen Rice.....I really am confused.... Center by commitee can only work so long, hopefully will get rid of some 3's in this supposed trade with New York, sign up Marc Jackson and have at least a decent guy willing to bang once Cato goes down...
We arent really sure if Cato will be starting when the season starts. If Cato does go down I guess Collier would be the 2nd option, you could also expect to see Taylor at the C. It would also trigger the signing of a free agent center, Smits, Seikley, Bol, I think Roberts drug suspension is up. No it probably won't be a high profile center like I mentioned above, probably a Coker or Dench.
I am worried about having a black point guard, everyone knows they have no fundamentals. jbond, I hope this helps to illustrate how blantantly racist your first post was. A player's skin color has nothing to do with his talent. If it did, why would so many teams draft white centers (eg Mihm, Tsakalides, Collier, Pryzbilla, Mikan, Walton, Divac, Bradley, LaFrentz, Sabonis, etc.) It is just as bad to make racist comments about white people as it is to make them about anyone else.
Well, I don't usually judge by someone by a single comment. The comment was "border-line racist." That doesn't mean you are. There aren't many good centers in the league, white or black. If we're talking "decent," then I'd add guys like Brad Miller. Tskalidis, Ilgauskas, Mihm, and others all have potential. Interesting how you supply no proof that something is inaccurate, yet call it moronic. Well, if you acknowledge that Collier can shoot, then he's de fact better than Cato, who can't manage to do anything right. Obviously. Center by committee worked just fine for the Bulls. And Marc Jackson has no range or shot blocking ability, so I don't see why you'd want him. Behad: My statement was moronic ?
Personally, I'd rather have Collier starting, whether Cato is hurt or not. His rebounding would be as good if not better, his shot can pull defenders out of lane for Mobley and Francis, and -- most importantly -- he actually tries.
