What I liked about Mavs game

I am already tired of reading posts dedicated to discussing what the Rockets did wrong against the Mavs. Certainly the defense needs work, and the offense wasn't perfectly fluent, but I feel the need to make a post that recounts what I liked of what I saw at the game tonight. Try to keep the replies positive.

While Steve's defense did not seem all that improved to me (Nash still ran all over the floor, and got into the lane at will), Francis did appear to be trying much harder on defense. Now if Rudy just redirects that enthusiasm, Steve could be a very complete player indeed.

Maurice Taylor pulled down a signifigant number of rebounds in what will probably be fewer minutes than he will get during the season. Also, I felt that Mo's defense was slightly better than what I have been told to expect.

KT, while looking bewildered on offense, showed his usual grit for grabbing rebounds, particularly offensive boards.

Mooch showed his usual competence in his role as backup point. He did not look to score too much, but basically to get some of the second string players involved in the offense.

What little I saw of Langhi, I liked. He seemed adept at finding the open spot on the floor, and I think he made one or two long range shots.

Shandon showcased his outstanding defense. I was especially impressed with his post defense of Finley during a couple Maverick possesions. This guy is so quick with his feet laterally, it is almost impossible to get by him. And if you aren't careful, he will pluck that ball right out of your hands just when it is least expected. I will look forward to more of this in the future.

And, perhaps best of all, Francis and Mobley still seem to be able to score at will. Aside from the (bad) travelling calls made on Francis tonight, he seemed very confident and competent leading our offense. And Mobley is perfect coming off the bench, meaning that the opposition gets no break on defense, because there is always a legitimate 1 on 1 scoring threat in the game. This creates match-up nightmare for the other team. This will be an exciting season to watch, even if we don't make the playoffs.

Absolutely....I like these constructive posts much more than the easy destructive ones that controversy-mongers like Vince put out. Don't let it tire you out that simpleton provocative threads often get more responses. It is a common journalist technique. Throw out controversy for no reason other than to increase readership.

We do read threads like this. Keep it up!

Here's my take on changes I saw:

    1. We are getting Francis into the low post, very similar to the manner Seattle gets Payton there. I'm not a great fan of this, because the legal zones can cut off the lane. It is useful for sure, but not at a high clip like Payton. Rudy...how about 3 players strong side with a low posting Francis. That forces less defense in the lane.

    2. Mobley has a step back jumper...woohoo.

    HP,
Mobley has had the step back in his reportoire....I remember him using it at RIU a few years back. But as long as he has been in the league, I cannot think of an occasion he utilized it, until last night.

How about his three point play down the center amongst the trees (4th quarter)? Nice!
