Suck outs, they are absolutely brutal....if you are a good player, you get sucked out on way more than the other way around.... Let me give you an example....I go all in with AK in a tourney on the bubble, a guy calls me with an equal stack, he has AQ.......yep, you guessed it a Q flops.....he has 3 outs....unreal. Then in another poker tourney last week, I have AA.....a guy goes all in...I have him covered, call, he has 88......yep, you guessed it an 8 flops...... This is 2 hands after I have AK.....and the same guy has KQ...and the flop is KK8 and he goes all in, I call.......and another 8 shows up giving us both a boat and him a split.... Double suck outs. It is awful to be in dominant position and have someone suck out.... Sometimes......the odds win......and it sucks... Otherwise, I love the game. DD
I have been on a very long losing streak (like 2 months). So I'm giving it up for now. It's a very expensive hobby.
?? before I quit tracking my profit/losses on excel in 2006, I had a net profit of $76,433. I started in 2003.
you are giving examples of suckouts that have happened to you. Don't pretend that you have never sucked out on someone else. when you are on the wrong end of a bad beat, it tends to stick out more, especially when a large amount of chips/money is at stake. I once flopped quad queens and lossed to quad aces on the river. I thought I was going to hang myself. about a week later I beat flopped quad 10's with quad jacks on the river. bad beats happen to everyone. suckouts happen to everyone. it's a part of the game. running into a wired set with rockets is just bad luck, you're not the first guy it's happened to and you won't be the last.
Play more poker. Then you won't be mad about sucking out. I've been playing for years and I don't even get frustrated at bad beats anymore. Once you get rid of that confirmation bias that you get sucked out more often than not, then you can start being successful.
Yes, suck outs suck... ...but if you continue to play the way you do then you'll beat people who call you with a lower hand far more often than they'll get a lucky out. So don't worry about it - crappy players end up giving you money in the long run!
When I'm up the river, I like to have all the paddles. There's nothing quite as exhilarating as a river win or as depressing as a river loss. Sorta like Ralph's last second shot against the Lakers in the playoffs.
no kidding...my first 6 months cost about $800. a few years later, i've made it all back a hell alot more. i've still got plenty of leaks in my game.
phil helmuth and doyle brunson still have leaks. one of the most complete tourney players I have ever seen is Mike Matasou(sp) minus his antics, he is a friggen genius. one of the best things I ever did was hire a poker coach, it set me back about $1500 but holy **** what a difference they make.
I'm in my first long losing streak (about 2 months). Fortunately we usually only play $10-20 buy in tourney's. Once in awhile we'll do one for $50. My first big tourney was at Coushatta about 2 months ago. $60 buy in and 2 add ons up front. Rebuys were $20. I play for about 2 hours and am almost out before getting moved to a table with alot more chips than I can afford. I get pocket 9's and go all in again 2 other players. They fold. My next hand, pocket rockets. Folds around except to the lady to my left (the chip leader). She raises, I go all in. The guy across from me folds. The lady calls. She has KQ. Flop is Q-trash-trash. Turn is more trash. I'm feeling good until that damn river. K and I am out. First place would have easily taken $5000. My only solace is knowing I got put out by someone that finished in the money ($500).
finding out hold 'em is more luck than many want you to believe? like how everyone thinks they are great players. depending on stack and blind size he was probably making an aggressive move. maybe he was getting a string of bad cards and that was his best hand in awhile. it's not a bad play if he pushes on you. again set of kings... would have been stupid to let go especially when he pushed before you. what are the odds of all kings showing? what you are calling a suck out is just bad luck. suck outs are when they call and fish it out.
Really? Everytime I watch him, he eventually blows up after a bad call. I like how Daniel Negreanu plays. IMO he is a genius.
That's why you play for pennies, or no money at all, my friends. I love it when gamblers act all surprised and bummed when they lose money. It's like being a skydiver and thinking it's not fair when the law of averages results in the chute not opening.
