I'm kinda the IT/IS guy for my company...my actual title is (Systems Coordinator) what I do basically, is maintain the company's PC's and a few other things... anyway, here's what I hate about my job, new technology. We received a new Dell, it's a beast. P4, 1.6Ghz, 256MB, WIN2K and it's a shame, cause it's gonna be an email/excel/word machine... arghh! This thing is beautiful. It's black, CPU & monitor, bad @ss internet keyboard, WIN2K and it's gonna be used for email!? The potential for this machine, wasted. Oh well, I felt I needed to vent. Thanks for listening.... What do you hate about your job? rH
We just got similar computers at work, jet black Dells, very bad-ass. Wordperfect has never fun faster! On the plus side, I can download a whole lot of music onto a 36 gig HD.
That's something unique about working for a school -- every computer that is out somewhere is being used to its capacity, or at least, there is not as much of a waste of power. Computers that aren't used as much are P266 and those that are important are either P933 or Athlons (ranging from 750 to 1 Ghz). What are you all doing with the old stuff?
And here I was thinking you were going to complain about customers showing up at the 10 items or less line with 11 items...
All the computers my company is getting now are the black Dells. They are 1.7 GHz with 256MB RAM with 30 or 40 GB HD's and 19" black Dell monitors. But I'm not worried... I'm building a new machine for myself.
I hate it when the IT guys here at work act all arrogant because all I'm using my super bad-ass computer for is email and excel. Actually, my computer is not all that bad-ass, but some of the folks in offices near me got those black Dells not to long ago. I'm not important enough to get one.
I am originally a lawyer, admitted in Germany and New York. I work for one of the big portals. During my time here, I switched from doing legal work to working in the management of the company. Now I am responsible for a product. What REALLY bothers me is working with developers. Whenever they tell you they will get something done in 1 week, it can be anything from 3 days up to 2 months...they just speak a different language than I do or something. Why do I have to work with geeks? Why did I not choose to run a model agency or something like that?? Damnit. Time for a career change or something!
Yeah, but then you don't get the stuff you want in it. If you're the average user that just "wants a P4", then a Dell will do. But if you want a KT266A-based motherboard (specifically an Epox 8kha+) with a GeForce 3 Ti 200 card, and Audigy audio card, a 7200 RPM hard drive, etc., then no, Dell will not do. The way those companies rip you off when you go to their sites is they overcharge you when you want to upgrade a video card or hard drive and I hate that. For example, in their performance line, they will say that to upgrade to a Geforce 3 card, it will cost you an additional $350. Considering I can get a NEW one for less than that, I'd be getting screwed. Why? Because the original price already includes the price of the existing video card, and on top of that, now they want me to pay $350 more for upgrading to a video card. I want to see how much I'm paying for that original video card first... (yeah, right... like they'd ever show you that. )
You're managing... what the hell do you have the right to b**** about? It's not like you're doing any work...
Thats too funny I too work for the IT dept. We receive in on average 10 P4 1.7Ghz 256MB Win2k blah blah blah a week. and 80% of them use them for office/outlook/IE/Winzip/oracle. A freaking PII 300 can handle these tasks w/out a second thought. What a waste of freaking money. Not to mention the 1ghz dell laptops we get. at least 5 of those a week. Docking station and monitor included.
What 's a computer? Who is Dell? And just because he's black that doesn't make him cool............... .........like me................word..........................
I'm a developer and I hate coding..... Well, I don't actually hate it. Let's just say it can be boring after a while working on hardware and software that is way behind where it should be. I feel like I'm working in antiques or something. Pisses me off. Oh yeah...and I got a stinking PIII 400 with 4 Gig hard drive . I need all the horsepower I can get dammit. I run development tools and develop software. The faster the machine...the more throughput I can give(in some situations). Hopefully, I can love coding again when we catch up(ride?) the technology wave. After all, I am the Surfguy. Surf
What I hate about my job: There isn't enough server space for me to give the complete unabridged version, so here's some excerpts. 1. Fat redneck guys who have a $61.72 tab and leave me $64.00. After "tip out" (2.5%), I end up making 64.00 - 61.72 = 2.28 - 1.54 = 0.74. SEVENTY FOUR FRICKIN' CENTS! And, no, not a single thing went wrong at the table. Just cheap, cheap bastards! 2. Having to roll silverware... I don't know it's a mental block. I HATE it!!!! Plus, we didn't have to until just recently. 3. I hate the fact that we have to "tip out" on comps. This means if a steak is cooked wrong, or there's a hair in it, and they have to cook another one, I have to pay tip pool on BOTH the meals, in spite of me having nothing to do with the mistake. And, 98 times out of 100 people do NOT tip on the total before the comp, they only tip on the total after the comp, so it's a double whammy. I have to pay a percentage of my sales for which I receive no tips.... There's gotta be a law, dammit! It's a scam, I tell ya'. --------------------------------- What I like about my job: 1. I won't be there in about 2 months.
"You know who I could do without? The people in the video store." "What do you recommend for a 6 yr old who chronically wets his bed." "So... do you have any new movies?" "Do you have that one, with that guy, who is in the movie last year..." "They never rent good flicks. They always pick the most intellectually devoid movies on the rack." "Oooh, Navy Seals!!"
I just hate having to get up and go to work. They should pay me for my potential like Cato and then if I show up and work everyone should be impressed and put me on the Frontpage. Go Rockets!!! PS: NT Lan Admin 4-5yrs experience looking. Resume on Request.
