Now that Moochie has been signed, what will the Rockets do with Jones? Will they keep him as a PG/SG? Waive him?

i vote to keep him, even if on IR. he is a shooter and can play both guard positions. i like having the depth on the bench. just my opinion.

    I'm stretching here, I know...

But based on someone here the other day saying that Jones was being outplayed by Kelly and Brown...

And Rudy not mentioning Jones in today's Chronicle...

And most importantly, of course, Moochie being back and Jones outright said to be insurance...

I'd say Jones is the odd man out. In my opinion, Torres may be the 12th man on the roster (13th, including Mo T).

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought him back should one of the guards get injured, though <knocking on wood>

There are 3 spots on IR.

We lack depth at both guard spots.

I don't give much credence to being "outplayed" during intrasquad practices. Especially when 1 of the players is an NBA vet and the others are trying to prove themselves.

Steve and Cat seem to like him.

    Jones is an ex-Coog.

I don't see a compelling reason not to keep Damon Jones.

we needed a back-up 2 guard last year, and also a second reserve point guard (incase steve got injured mooch doesn't have to play 40 min. and vice versa).

damon jones will fill both needs and will be kept. oscar torres will try to take minutes away from jones at the 2 spot, but will likely be kept on the IL.

with a nice solid season and the abillity to play both guard spots, we may decide to keep damon as our 4th guard for a couple years.

    our roster:

    1.steve
    2.cat
    3.rice
    4.jackson
    5.mooch
    6.kt
    7.griff
    8.walt
    9.cato
    10.collier
    11.jones
    12.langhi
    IL.mo
    IL.T-mo
    IL.torres

rockets had to renounce his rights, because of the rice trade...

guess now in toronto, but don“t expect him to make the team

I'd bet that Jones stays on, and I will also bet that he gets some minutes. Midway through the season, we'll be saying,"Oscar who?"

Honestly, I was thoroughly impressed with Jones while he was playing for Dallas. Nellie HAD to play him, as he came up big in many games. Dallas also played a lot of Jones when Nash was hurt. When Nash was healthy again, they played small ball with Nash at the point, Jones at the two and Finley at the three.

Jones' play warranted minutes, even on a pretty deep guard oriented team like Dallas.

CD and Rudy have lost their mind. It's disgusting to see them waste $4 mil on backup point. Give me a break, we are lottery bound for next season

$4 mil per season, another overpayment by CD for a point guard. Check Brent Price, Bryce Drew, and Maloney's contracts.

I'm a homer and I've know Damon since he was freshman at UofH. I think his game is better by far than Moochie. Plus he is taller and plays better D and shoots much better than Moochie.

    Francis 6'3
    Cat 6'4
    Mooch 6'1
    Jones 6'3

    Isn't that a tad short?

    Don't you think we should

    1) Give backup SG minutes to Moochie since we're paying him that much?

    2) Have a tall guard that can play D and match up with bigger guards?

I like Jones, but maybe we need what Torres is offering, because we have enough of what Jones is offering?

Torres will work hard for ANY minutes, and Jopnes might complain about not getting minutes. Personally, I think Jones wil WANT to find more minutes on another team.

Rudy knows best, but that's my 2 cents...

I agree as well......we will need a big 2 guard to match up throughtout the season....either Torres or Morris will have to be left on the active roster.

I don't think this is Dan's year. SF is crowded, and now SG is crowded. PF is also crowded. Where will he play?

There's no position where he's not 3rd string.

There's no way we waive or get rid of Damon Jones. He's a really good shooter and he has some talent plus he's really good friends with some of the Rockets (Wink and Cat mostly I think) and it's been his dream to be a Houston Rocket. He even said he'd be willing to work for his minutes if we resigned Moochie because he wanted to be a Rocket so badly. Plus there won't even be a decision needed, Jones will be part of the team, maybe at worst on the IR.

I think, at least for now, that Oscar has more to worry about than Jones.

Jones being an NBA vet and all.
