Where has Walt been this season? It seems like he had a couple of decent games early on, but has kind of disappeared offensively as of lately. I guess his overall stats aren't all that different from last year, but I kinda figured the wave he was riding out on at the end of last season would be a sign of things to come. The way I see it, this team is suffering from a serious lack of offensive firepower, (in my view, this is plain). Of course I'd like to see more of a power game in the paint, but I'm not sure the Rockets have the personnel (besides an aging Dream) to pull that off right now. You can establish a minimal presence, but an attempt at anything more than that with the guys the Rockets have right now might be suicide. With all shooters, the more touches (and subsequent shots) you get, the more likely you are to hit them. Walt's hovering around a 44% FG clip from behind the arc. I say let Walt jack up more than his 8 shots per game. Get him involved! Incidentally, does anyone see a correlation in Walt's performance with that of Anderson's? Is it a coincidence that neither of these guys has gotten off to a good start? ------------------
Walt has definately got to get more shots. ISO works well with Francis and Cat but I honestly think we need to involve our shooters alot more. Bullard has been getting plenty on the offensive end but Wizard and Shandon (except last game). I don't think we'll have very much sucess in the play-offs with ISO against half court sets. If not we may as well trade Wizard and get a defensive minded SF and hope that Steve or Cuttino get hurt as they will end up our only offensive threats. I maybe getting abit overboard but in a way this is true. BTW, KT has got to give the ball up and stop shooting so many times a game!!! ------------------ Miggidy Markell says: 1. Please ....... Please ........ ask me to put down the rhetoric and slowly step back. If I get started on this Walt-rate thing, I will be off on a Walt-hate thing for the entire season. DeanBCurtis where are you when I need you? Okay, okay, let me repeat Dean's mantra ..... "I know Walt is a good person. I know he has his faults but he is still talented. I know he has a streaky shot. I know Walt is well liked by RT. I know he is a real waste of mmmmmm .... sorry, my inner sense was kicking in ....(where was I ......, oh yeah ......) I know Walt is a good person. I know he has his faults but he is still talented. I know ......... " ------------------
You'll have to explain to me why you have such an intense Walt-dislike sometime, oeilpere. Sure, he's pretty much an offense-only player. But in Houston, he's got a lot of company in that category. ------------------ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve immortality by not dying. - Woody Allen
my opinion is that there is a correlation between the opponents defensive abilities and their game plan and the success of Walt and Anderson. Many teams have a game plan to get the ball out of Francis and Mobley's hand while also denying Walt (particularly the Walt Double Pick. These damn high traps are very disruptive for our boys. However, I'm seeing signs of what is called "flattening" the defense by using a 1-4 set. 1 being the dribbler with the 4 others either strung out high (along the free throw line extended) or strung out along the baseline. You cannot trap us then. Anyhow, this is a brand new season driver8, and the defenses are constructing game plans to stop Walt. He shot 60% last April. They cannot allow that. It is up to us to respond, but not to force it.
