What happened to Moses Malone and Yao?

Just got back from a Chinese site, it was talking about Bill Russell wants to coach Yao Ming. Chinese National Team's head coach said he welcomes Russell. Of course, the Chinese are too complicated for me to figure out, based on my experience there in China. The politics is too complex in almost every organization. No one knows if the head coach is just saying the nice things or he really meant it.

Anyway, I remember back in the middle of the regular season, Moses Malone expressed willingness to be Yao's personal coach. On the Rudy T. show, Rudy was really vague when he was asked some questions on that issue. Then, there is no more news on that, which means nothing happened.

Now, if the Chinese are willing to accept a foreign legend to coach Yao, why did the Rockets reject their own legend doing the same thing? Of course, I don't know anything about what happened behind the scenes. Anyone knows?

Too much was made of the deal.

Malone said he "wanted to work with Yao." Rudy T. said "Malone - like Olajuwon, Drexler, or anyone else associated with the club are welcome any time." Nothing happened (publicly) from that point.

Was Malone angling for an assistant coach position? Unknown.

Did Malone want to teach Yao at Fonde - the same way he "taught" Olajuwon? Unknown, but given YM's schedule, it seems unlikely they would be able to schedule such "sessions." Remember, there simply isn't time during the regular season, and YM needs to *rest* any time he is not involved in Rockets or Chinese National Team business.

Good point. I am just wondering if anyone who knows something more than just "unknown" and tell us alittle more.

I think in one of Rudy's talk shows someone asked him the same question about the possibility of Malone coaching Yao, but Rudy replied by saying that the Rocks already have a good coaching staff around Yao etc (basically implying that they don't need any outside help, or indirectly saying they don't need Malone's help as his coaching staffs are good enough already)

Bill rusell expressed his willingness to coach Yao, he wants to do this for free and with no condition attached whatsoever.

i know i want to see a bill rusell like yao in the future than a moses malone one.

Yeah, that seems about right.

Again, I am still very suspect on the Rockets assistant coaches. We need to see better player development from them or get some coaches that can do the job.

Nachbar and Griffin need a BIG summer of development!

    Sorry, next contestant please.

If ANYONE knows about "The Rudy T Show." (on here), it is me ;)

I have the show(s) on my hard drive. Coach's answer was what I said above. Malone was welcome to the training center at any time, and any help he wanted to offer was appreciated. In a separate show, when the specific issue of hiring Malone as an assistant coach was raised, RT supported his guys, and added that neither he, nor the organization had ever been formally approached (about the possibility of a position) by Moses Malone or anyone representing him.

If they hired Moses they'd need 2 translators. One for Chinese-English for Yao and one to translate whatever language it is that Moses speaks with English.

Colin Pine would have to learn another language just for translating Malone to Yao.

Seriously, does Colin's contract have a term? When are they going to dump him? Will Yao ever want to tell Colin, "Dude, you can pack now. I don't need you anymore"?
