simple question. what great player has ever been "hampered" or "held back" by his coaches "system"? pgabriel, SamFisher, et al, please let me know. great players thrive in any system because their talent is undeniable.

put shaq in sacramento's system. think he'd suffer? no. he'd still dominate.

put tim duncan in the triangle. think he'd suffer? no. he'd still dominate.

put kevin garnett in jvg's system. same result.

yet we a collective group on francis fanatics that blame jvg for steve ineptitude. steve's woes can be blamed on no one other than himself. he sucks as a point guard., he sucks defensively, and he'd suck as a shooting guard. as soon as he's no longer BYC, ship him out.

First of all, I never said Steve was hampered by the system, I said he is having trouble adjusting, so if you are going to call me out, at least get it straight.

Oh, and to answer your question,

Scottie Pippen in Houston. Case Closed.

If you would put Marbury into JVG's system, he would be another SF3.

Look at the players you mentioned Verse, the 3 top players in the NBA, compare anyone to them and you get the same result.

No one is fully blaming JVG for our problems, but it doesn't help that JVG has no offensive schemes what so ever. Sure Steve's numbers are down, but so are Cat's, and who thought Yao would only be scoring 2 more ppg this season.

JVG is an eastern conference style coach and we play in the WEST, and people still want to know why we lose to the WEST.

I don't care how great his defense is, YOU CANNOT WIN IN THE WEST WITHOUT SCORING. CD and Les may have made a big mistake.

Scottie Pippen was a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter away from going to the Western Conference Finals with Portland the very next year after leaving Houston. So if he had success there, what happened here?

This is a stupid question. If you had a great player who was hampered by the system he played in, his greatness likely would not be recognized. They you'd deny the Scottie Pippen example is a perfect demonstration of this fact.

Err, yes he was. He spent enough time b****ing about the "system", after he left. "Wah, wah, I just stood around while those guys posted up, wah, wah."

There was a lot of bitvhing about Yao being held back by Rudy's ISO system last year so it cuts both ways.

    JV & pgab,

my point about pippen is that he was not a great player anymore when he got to houston. pippen's back was shot. period. that's the reason he struggled in houston and in portland. he was...and is...done.

portland's 17 point lead (vs lakers) is irrelevant. you honestly think scottie pippen was that team's star player? portland was fielding a team of allstars then. pippen was the leader insofar as veteran leadership, but he definitely was not the marquee, franchise player for them.

you're missing the point. great players don't get hampered by systems.

    gucci888,

ok. how about vince carter? how about jermaine o'neal? ben wallace? dirk nowitski? jason kidd?
