After starting a thread regarding rebuilding, it got me thinking about what GM I would model a franchise after....of course I know most people would pick DM as the model GM, but if you were to pick a GM to model after, who would it be and most importantly, why?
Tank the hell out to get a franchise player. That's the only way to rebuild for every franchise other than Lakers, Bulls, Kincks.
It can be past or present....but obviously let's stay in basketball...lol...nobody like stenbreinner....
If I were to start a franchise and hire a GM...here are a few I would like my GM to model: Buford from the Spurs: Yes, it helps that they had number one picks in David Robinson and Tim Duncan, but if you think of what they have done despite them being a mid market team with picks like Parker and Ginoboli and alot of their under the radar moves...Buford would be my top choice O'Connor from the Jazz: Let me start off by saying I completely will and forever hate the Jazz, but they run one hell of a ball club and that starts from the man upstairs....considering they haven't had any real super stars oustide of Stockton and Malone, they find a way every year to stay a relevant team with guys like Deron Williams, Boozer (obviously no longer there), maybe Jefferson now, but under the radar signings of guys in the past like Korver (no longer there), Harping and Okur.... Presti from the Thunder: I really like what this guy has done with his team the past few years....obviously having a guy like Durant makes this an easy choice, but getting guys like Westbrook, Green, Sefolosha, and Alrich in this year's draft (although unproven) makes him look like a genius...to turn a young team with a relatively unexperienced coach in Brooks into a playoff team in the western conference is genius in my book... Paxson from the Bulls: very underrated considering the pieces he's put together with Rose, Noah, Boozer and Deng.... GM's I would never consider David Kahn: trading away my biggest asset in Jefferson for 2nd round picks and drafting/signing/ like ten point guards in the past two seasons (see Sessions, Ridnour, Flynn, and Rubio) Wallace from the Grizzles: signed Rudy Gay at the max contract when he's not a max player and trading Gasol for peanuts....need I say more
Kahn is misunderstood and underrated by the media and fans. He at least started the first step right: destroy the team. Repeatedly getting into the drafts has been proven to be the best way to rebuild. Kahn is just doing that.
