The definition of "Franchise player" is so vagued that sometimes I wonder what players need to do and show is the past to be labeled as franchise player? How many franchise player does NBA have right now? Who are they and why are they?

franchise player is usually the star player that teams want to build their team aka franchise around.

usually its the teams best / star player also its highest paid.

    KG from Minnesota
    Duncan from Spurs
    Tmac from Magic

    are examples of franchise players.

Some teams dont have one.. like Hawks and or Wizards.

while some team have 2 like Lakers..

Or you could have the last name "Francis" and just have the title given to you without having to prove a damn thing. :D

Here's a simple formula to use: Take any one player (or so-called franchise player) and transplant him to a team that hasn't made the playoffs or has a very bad record. If the wins jump up, and/or they make the playoffs, and it can be contributed to the impact of that player, presto, instant franchise player.

Put Shaq on any team, and you'll automatically get wins, even the dismal Hawks would make the playoffs. Same goes for Duncan, KG, and a hand-full of others. I'm reserving opinion on Kobe, although I think he's a great player.
