    Ezra Charles and The Works.

I believe he/they went on to bigger and better things. :)

I heard that Ezra Charles invented the pick-up for the electric piano. Anybody know if that is urban myth or amazing fact?

Yes electric pianos do require pickups. A Fender Rhodes has a pickup (or polepiece) on every single tine.

Well, Hakeem was against it because of religious beliefs, so hopefully it's dead and buried. It was a bad idea in the first place.
