I dont live anywhere near texas, and for some silly reason was today wondering what happpened in the wake of the deaths at the bonfire. I remember a couple of students dying when the (Texas A&M ( I think)) bon fire collapsed. I remember hearing that they were gonna stop the fire, but Im wondering what has happened?? It has fallen well below the medias radar, so I was hoping you guys couls help me out. also pertaining to another thread, that bon fire tradition sounds like a good thing (rabid fans in texas). later ------------------
The Texas A&M bonfire collapse killed 12 and injured 27. It was one of the worst college tragedies that has ever happened. There has been less on the bonfire lately, but there is still the occasional story, though probably not so much in the national media. You can go to the university website and probably find all of the information you want on the topic. They have a section on the bonfire. http://www.tamu.edu/aggiedaily/press/ ------------------ Stay Cool...
Thought I'd give you a piece of bonfire lore just for grins.... The Texas A&M bonfire has been held annually for homecoming on the night before the Texas A&M vs. University of Texas football game, held for years on Thanksgiving. Legend has it the winning team was treated to a night at the "Chicken Ranch" before it was shut down by Houston Channel 13 newsman Marvin Zindler. This legend was immortalized in a movie starring Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton, Don DeLuise, Jim Nabors, and Charles Durning, called "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." By the way, in the movie, Texas A&M won. ------------------ Stay Cool...
DC, Not trying to be nit picky, but "The Best Little Whorehouse" was a stage musical way before it was a movie. I did the show in college. Man that was a LOT of fun! ------------------ 'Deeds, not words, shall speak me.'
I'll be very interested to see the attitude around town during that week. I think the Horns took it to an extreme last year. I loved everything that the school did to help out the fellow Texans in an obvious time of tragedy, however, Mack Brown let it effect the players' attitude on the field, which, IMO, led to the loss. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
