The 70's. No contest. The 60's are a distant 2nd.

I chose the 80's mainly because that's the only era in which I watched prime time tv. The 80's shows were the most accessible.

You also gotta love the 90's gems like:

    Nick Freno - Licensed Teacher
    The Army Show
    Step by Step
    Blossom
    the PJ's
    Smart Guy

The 90's had a lot of sucky ones, but Seinfeld, Frasier, The Simpsons, and South Park trump all other shows combined.

Can't believe I left out Newsradio from the 90's.

Also, Cheers and Married With Children give the 80's a lot of clout.

Guess it kind of depends on the era you came of age huh?

    So I'll say the 70s.

With the 90s being very strong.

Um. Macgyver is not a sitcom. We'll do the "Era of greatest action/dramas" later.

Edit: BTW the action/dramas of the 80's would kick every other era to kingdom come. The A-Team, Knight Rider, Quantum Leap and Macgyver. It's over.

Although it's debatable whether Quantum Leap is "actiony" enough.

Exactly what I was going to ask.

I used to watch Wonder Years, Family Matters, and Step By Step all the time.

B/c by the definition of a sitcom the show must actually be funny. ;)

Shows like Quantum Leap and Mcgyver were 90's era shows for me, because back then the tv in Saudi Arabia consisted of shows shown roughly 5yrs or so before.....

Hell, they used to show NBA games and Soccer games like 4 months after the season ended. :D

Leave it to Beaver was the 60s.

Where is The Dick Van Dyke Show? Another 60s show.

Leave it to Beaver started in 1957.

Premiering in the fall of 1957 and focusing on the adventures of seven-year-old Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver and his 12-year-old brother, Wally, Leave It to Beaver was remarkably fresh for its time.

lucy and dick van dyke are nice from the 50's (although No Worries just called this a 60's show so maybe i'm off there) but there wasn't enough from that decade.

    the 60's blow.

the 70's has more decent shows than i was thinking but nothing that was ever spectacular for me (MASH and all in the family have just never been that funny even though they have their moments).

the 80's do have cheers (the best ever) and stuff like cosby but in general the stuff was still too goody two-shoes i think (at least the family sitcoms).

then the 90's have friends, frasier, seinfeld, and the simpsons (i have to call this a 90's show since it was on for the entire decade) along with things like newsradio, south park, and everybody loves raymond and just completely obliterate the competition. roseanne and home improvement would also go in the 90's and i would've thought coach was a 90's show, too. even the throwaway things from the 90's like a "just shoot me" were better than most anything that came before them. so the 90's in a landslide for me.
