What does the "thugs are us" image do for the league?

IMO, not much in the way of positive outcomes. The recent rash of arrests, Kobe, Damon S., and Armstrong does nothing but tarnish the NBA's image. Hopefully, Bryant's arrest is a "set up" and he won't be charged, but the damage may already be done. NBA players are increasingly seen by the general public as thugish streetballers who smoke dope, womanize, disdain discipline and practices, and just show up at games to "show out." Truth or fiction? Check the falling attendances and the dimishing viewing audiences.

Well...there needs to be some controversy...
It's not good when everybody's role model is arrested though!
I think the reason popularity is declining is ABC! They are horrible at broadcasting games! Boring! Terrible!
And.....well.....once the Lakers return to the championships, don't worry. The ratings will be just fine.

The NBA is still a very popular sport...sometimes it's too ugly to watch! Too many youngsters!

    Referees...well they can't do anything....

I agree about ABC, who is Walton's side kick? Gee, he is really awful. The league really needs some new stars. Maybe LeBron, et al. will spice up the league. What about curfews, no tatoo rules, dress codes, required community service, routine drug testing? What can be done to clean up the league?

Bill Walton is terrible. I dread any game that I have to hear that idiot speak. Everybody I know hates him as well.

Man, it aint that bad! How many people role model is Damon Stoudmire? The real role models like KG, T-Mac, Kobe(innocent) Tim Duncan and Stevie that people actually look up to dont have run ins with the law.
The players are people too, cant expect them to be perfect.

The "fans" shouldnt profile all the players because they got a tatto or wear a diamond in their ear.

Funny how NBA players are thought as thugs etc etc. Cuz they have tats, get arrested or whatever. But NFL fans just brush it off as no big deal. Players in the NFL are involved in murdercases but still the NFL is thought as having a clean image. NBA players arent that bad, sure they have tats (not a big deal to me) but you think NFL players dont? They just have it covered up. Baseball should defitnely have more of an image concern than the NBA, atleat NBA players are thought as of being juiced up. Gimme a break the image of the league is fine, they just need the stars to grow and rivalries to form.

It sells lots and lots of shoes and gear to "urban" kids. They buy a dispropotionate amount of NBA gear.

As comedien Patrice Oneal says: I'll go buy a new pair of sneakers because they match the belt I'm wearing.

I believe thats what they call street-cred

Is it just me, or is the phrase "street-cred" being played out?

If the evidence sent to the state lab to be analyzed is semen and the DNA is positive, its lights out for Kobe. She may have voluntarily 'given it up' to Kobe, but its he-said-she-said and she has him by the shorts. It's (all of the events) a bad, bad thing for the game, the players, future endorsements, the whole shebang.

And now get ready to be flooded with hungary players from all over the world. LEBRON JAMES, may be the last 90 million dollar player out of high school, ever. There is a gigantic market in the far East, near East, Europe, Russia that has hardly been tapped and those players will be siphoning off a lot of the dollars that black baksetball players in the U.S. were getting. You don't have to be MJ to be the most popular player in China ! As usual, a few people screw it up for the rest of the people.

p.s. They don't really play football anywhere but the U.S. !
