Would you rather have the NBA become an international league or allow women to play in the NBA first? Personally I would love to see the NBA become a world-wide association, since that would give some validity to the title of "World-Champions" given to the NBA champs every year. I have heard discussion of integrating the WNBA with the NBA, but personally I see no reason to do so. Nobody watches WNBA games, so why would women on a men's team increase fan's interest? (sorry if this came out a little sexist) *Note* I realize the NBA is technically international already, since Canada is involved, but I am talking about something more drastic. The Poll is based on what you would like to see first, but i am also interested in which you think would actually happen first.
I haven't seen any WNBA games lately, but the difference between the level of play still has to be rather huge. The best in the WNBA would struggle in the DLeague....and probably get paid less. Playing internationally...that could definitely happen. You'd have to add atleast a division at a time though, not just one team. And expansion would be a big issue at this point.
I would like to know where I can purchase the substances consumed by those who suggested to you that the WNBA be integrated into the NBA.
A international final would be cool have nba season champs play international champs to a final international champioship. all season must be on same schedule, international would not play during reg seasons only in final tourney, so nba reg season would have to be shortened or make all playoff series best of 5. I would shorten nba season by 10 games.
Much rather see other countries(not a far stretch, seeing as Texas is closer to Mexico than Boston) than women play in the NBA.
The NBA is already international, it is in Canada and the USA. I would, however, love to see a Champions league event where basketball is played among the top leagues all over the world. DD
If you did something drastic for international play, I'd do this: Eurasian Conference (12 teams) American Conference (24 teams) Grizzlies, Kings, Bobcats, Timberwolves, Wizards, Hornets sold/moved to Europe. European teams to include: London Paris Greece (Athens) Italy (Rome, Milan) Spain (Barcelona, Madrid) Germany (Berlin, Munich) Yugoslavia Russia (St Petersburg, Moscow) Split into 2 divisions, playing own division 6 times and outside division 4 times. Play each American conference team once (two 6-game road trips to N. America) (78 total games). American split into 4 divisions, no conferences. Play your own division 5 times, 2 American divisions twice, 1 (alternating) American division 3 times (except one team), European teams once (one 6-game road trip to Europe) (78 total games). 4 games off the schedule, 6 teams added, and every team has one cross-Atlantic road trip (2 for the Europeans). All that said, I'm not in a hurry to see it happen. Like DD said, a Champions League would be cooler. I'd almost replace the preseason with it.
David Stern has said himself he would like to get women into the NBA in a few years. http://lakers.ocregister.com/2009/12/06/women-in-the-nba-dont-think-so-jackson-says/26205/
That is far from true... A WNBA team would ransack a HS team in the butthole... A D3/D2 college team is a different story...
Of course he'd like to see a woman playing in the NBA. Even if she failed, it would be a PR dream. That's still quite a bit different than getting rid of the WNBA and having women playing in the NBA generally.
Not trying to be a debbie downer, but that's what the FIBA World Championships are for....just sayin...
National Basketball Association... Just saying. I'm also not trying to be sexist here, but I don't see women physically being capable to compete with male athletes. I wouldn't mind it if they could, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Forget women in the NBA. Ain't gonna happen. There will be a breakthrough in tennis and golf for women before basketball. And I mean WAY before it could happen in basketball. This is so hypothetical that it isn't even worth discussing IMO. Women's basketball is almost an entirely different sport than the NBA (or even FIBA for that matter).
Not far from the truth at all. Maybe not a bad HS team but an average to good (not even great team) could beat a WNBA team. Mainly would just need big physical players (which most big city HS team's have) and guards that can overpower and are faster than the female guards (most big schools have this too). The WNBA teams might win 2-3 games if they played 10 but the overpowering boys would win the majority. By you saying this is far from true, you have no idea how competitive HS basketball is on the varsity level. Go down to Hastings or Willowridge and ask them if they would lose to a WNBA team. They might have enough respect for them and say it could be challenging and they might win a few every now and then. Most likely you will be laughed at for asking such a question. Men, even 17 and 18 year old boys, are just that much more physical. Tina Thompson could hold her own, Sheryl Miller in her prime could. That girl from Nimits that plays for Baylor now might be one of the most physically gifted female of all time. However, there are very few of these type of players, plus on an NBA level they would be punished/abused/crippled whatever word you want to think of, it would happen. Most WNBA players are even smaller than those boys on HS varsity teams and to make it worse, they are also not as fast! They would have to be coach K'd or Sloan'd to be damn near perfect to accomplish a win much less than ransacked in that way. Your saying a WNBA team would ransack a HS team in the butthole! That is way farther form the truth then whatever crap your brain thought to put on this thread. You must not have ever played anywhere near the level of varsity basketball if you truely believe your own crap. I'm more on the level that a really good junior varsity team could challenge WNBA teams and those are 15-17 year old boys! Point is that might be the most ignorant thing I've ever read on this board and I've been here awhile! You could easily have said an average HS varsity team would get beat by a WNBA team but you said ransacked in the butthole! BTW, what balls would they use since females can't seem to thrust our balls in the air even at a professional level, something that is no problem for a 14 year old freshman boy? Think about it, freshman boys use real balls that are the same size as the NBA one's, yet as females move up the ladder to college then professional, the balls never change size?! Sounds like teenage boys are just that much stronger than adult females yet they would be ransacked in the butthole!? Just plain ignorant on your part!
No to both. But I'd rather see international first. That would be such a pain for the players to have to travel so much. 19 hrs 1 way to China? It would really take a toll on the players and they'd have to include more travel time, likely decreasing the number of games a year. No to international- you'd have to create more teams which spreads out the talent. You'd have to include more people who play euro ball and D League which is a significant talent jump- which makes the game less entertaining to watch. Women in the NBA is a no no. It could be cool to have a NBA/WNBA all-star game or coed tournament, but no women in the NBA, unless they really were better than all of the men who don't make the NBA. If it's any form of an affirmative action or publicity stunt, then no. I want to watch talent. I want to watch men.
I would rather seen international first for same reason. So the meaning of "world champions" be true. same with the mlb "world series" champions never understood how they can use those terms if they don't play the whole world. not to be sexist but I think I would stop watching basketball period if woman are allowed to play with the men in the nba. How would thelocker room work? They can't get dress in same area even though most those females might or might not be into men anyways. But tell a hormone man if he cares lol. They wouldn't be able to match up physically with the men. They would get man handled most likely. Imo I think it would do more bad to the nba than good. But again that's my opinion.
