The win streak sent this team out on a good note for the first time in franchise history. There's actually something to build on. Clearly, though, there are some glaring holes that need to be fixed. Here's what I see that needs to change...

    1) Carr has to go. This isn't a David Carr hater thing. It's just that after 5 years, it's time to look in another direction. I do think it's possible that DC will be a good NFL qb. I just don't think it's going to be in Houston and his time is up. Trade him for whatever pick you can get and move on. Sticking with Rosenfels or signing Plummer or Garcia wouldn't be bad options IF they plan to draft a qb on the first day (Kolb in second or third round?).

    2) Draft the best player available with the 1st pick at a need position (OT, FS/SS, CB, DL, RB). I don't see it being a RB with Kubiak/Denver's history.

    3) 3/4 of Defensive backfield needs to go. Faggins did nothing but get burned time and time again after he came back from injury. The safeties aren't bad, they just aren't good enough. They don't do any one thing well. They're bad in coverage and run defense. If there is one worthy of the #8 pick, then do it. Dunta is a stud, but he needs help.

    4) More DL depth is crucial. Mario could have been a lot better with more help. There was no reason for teams not to double team him. They had no respect for the other linemen. I'm not sure what's available in the FA market, but some veterans would be preferable to help Mario come along.

    5) Don't wait too long to make a decision on Domanick Williams-Davis. If Taylor is your guy and Dayne's going to stick around, dump DW-D. I don't think this will be a problem as Kubiak has proven to not be very patient with him.

    6) Please make a radio deal with someone here in Austin. I was lucky to get 610 in with a decent signal. Since the CBS affiliate here has turned into the official Titans channel, their radio station went with them. There is NO coverage in Austin and that is a shame.

    1. Hitting the FA market.

Last year from FA before training camp, we got

    FB Jameel Cook (5-10, 237)
    QB Sage Rosenfels (6-4, 225)
    DE Anthony Weaver (6-3, 280)
    WR Kevin Walter
    TE Jeb Putzier (6-4, 256)
    LB Sam Cowart (6-2, 245)
    C Mike Flanagan (6-5, 301)
    DE N.D. Kalu (6-3, 265)
    LB Zeke Moreno (6-2, 235)
    G David Loverne (6-3, 299)
    LB Wali Rainer (6-2, 240)
    WR Jake Schifino (6-1, 201)
    C Tupe Peko
    S Michael Stone
    TE Ben Steele
    WR Chris Doering
    T Brad Bedell
    T Ephraim Salaam

    Quite a few solid players.

    1. Schaub or Carr? If Matt Schaub can be had then I'm all for dropping Carr. However, if the Schaub compensation package is too steep then we must stay with Carr. He's our best option.

    2. In the event that we keep Carr...Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Kolb hopefully could be available.

    3. 1st round pick should go to the best available player...We need help at defensive back and a LT.

    4. Sometime in the late rounds find a new punter or kicker or both.

    5. Free Agents Michael Lewis, Nate Clements, Leonard Davis, Ahman Green should all be on the Texans radar.

Keep Carr. Draft a good Offensive Lineman. Draft a good Defensive lineman and get a free agent good Free Safety. Special teams are ok. :(

I want 10 wins next season. Indianapolis is exploitable, jacksonville kitties are our customers, and we can split 2 with the Titans. I want the Texans to destroy the nasty-colored black and gold team from that stupid city.

Only if we draft his eventual replacement. Or draft his replacement and sign a guy like Garcia.

I've been in the "Keep Carr" camp for too long. It's not that I don't think he will be a good NFL qb. You just get to a point where it just isn't going to work. It's been 5 years and we've gotten absolutely 0 improvement from the guy. Do I think he is more gifted than Sage (I couldn't beat out Jay Fiedler last season and he isn't even in the league anymore) Rosenfels? Yes, I do. I just don't believe Carr has the right mindset to be a great NFL qb. Get him out of Houston just as much for our good as his.

Also, what do you think will happen to season ticket sales the second they were to announce DC will be returning as the starting qb in 2007? My guess is that the sell outs would end.

Have mercy on Carr, trade him.

Do what you they should have done several seasons ago, rebuild the offensive line.

Hire someone to make their number one draft selection, preferably not r****ded.

Get rid of as many "low graded" players as possible.

Bring in as many good players as possible

If none of the above happen, consider relocating to another city.

No, that is a bit harsh, we need another team first.

Get better players at the following positions: OG, C, CB, OT, S, QB, OLB, RB, DE, DT, P, WR, K, LS.

I think they're pretty set at FB, TE & MLB.

Rick Smith, the current GM, was not yet hired or consulted for the last draft. Besides, most experts rated the draft overall as very good. Say what you want about the 1st pick, Ryans, Spencer, Winston, Lundy, and Daniels were all very good picks.

Can we be effective in FA with our cap space? I think we are around 15 million under.

We might not need to go for big names though cause Rick Smith seems pretty good at finding talent.

    Draft Peterson.

    Drop/trade Carr.

    Start Rosenfels.

    See what happens.

Wrong. They showed the Texans games before, but the ratings were really low.
You know why they show the Titans in Austin.

    leroy,
go to any sports bar with NFL sunday ticket. yes, they will even show the texans.

I'd like to get a running stuffing DT that can free up Weaver and Mario to make plays. i think that is priority #1 for the D and IMO, would make a hell of a difference. Let Maddox start (he earned it) and keep the T. Johnsons for depth.
I'd keep either Peek or Babin, but not both, for depth (I keep Babin).

We need a LT badly. If we can get one, I think the rest of the line falls into place with LG Pitts, C Weary/McKinney, RG Winston and RT Spencer

I'd invest a 2nd rounder/3rd rounder on a cover corner who can develop within a year or two, keep Faggins as our nickel corner and find a free safety in the 3rd of 4th rounds.

Our linebacking core is pretty decent. I'd focus on them last for depth only.

Last, sign or draft a punter for the special teams and hope Mathis comes back healthy.

If Smith can strike it rich on these things, I'd look for an 8 win season at least.

It's expected that Atlanta is going to put a 1st round tendure for Schaub, definitely not worth it IMO.

    1. Trade Carr for whatever we can get for him (4th rounder maybe?)

    2. Sign Jake Plummer, while he isn't great, he is an upgrade over Carr and knows the system.

    3. Draft Branch, M. Griffin, and Kolb on first day (unlikely but possible). Look for OL help and RB on 2nd day.

    4. Sign Nate Clements.

    5. Look for OLB through FA.

Carr is not the problem. He may not be the solution but he is not the problem.

The problem is the offensive line, and defensive backfield. Those 2 areas have to be addressed, along with a defensive line upgrade as well. Then the QB and RB positions need to be addressed following that if there is still a problem.

David Carr deserves at least one season to run this team without having 2-300 lb monsters planting him 6 foot under the turf on every pass play. No, he's probably not a great QB. But he's not the problem. 5 years of crappy drafts and player personnel decisions combined with bad coaching has been the problems. We have one year of a healthy draft. We need another healthy draft of good line and defensive backfield talent before we think about drafting a QB high.

This team still has so many holes at so many positions. At the 8th pick I dont know if Peterson would be available if he comes out. I'd lean more towards a nasty free safety like LaRon Landry. I'd like to replace C.C. Brown as soon as possible.

I'm not exactly sure how I was wrong. They showed the Texans before and they have since turned into the home of the Titans. I know why they switched...I'm really not that dumb.

I'd love to bail out on my wife and kid on a Sunday to sit at a bar all Sunday. Unfortunately, without it on local tv, my only hope is to pick it up on the radio. That is why I was asking for them to sign up a new local radio affiliate. They were on 1530 last season. This season, they were supposed to be on 1370, CBS radio. They were never on. It's kind of hard to grow a fan base outside of the city if you can't even find an am station to take them.

I think that would make a bigger impact than people realize. He's a very good player. I wouldn't mind another CB as well. Faggins is nothing more than a good nickel back. He just got torched through out the second half of the season. Nearly every long pass play could in some way be attributed to him. He just isn't fast enough to stay with starting WR's.
