I am so tired in the mornings that I have to drink 4 or 5 large cups of coffee just to wake up. Once the caffeine wears off, I feel like hell again. It's a vicious cycle that I'd like to find an alternative to.

I was just wondering if there is some kind of vitamin or other healthy supplement you take to get going in the morning. Centrum just ain't cuttin' it.

I used to drink a ton of coffee everyday and felt like ****. I've been working out every morning now, ditched the coffee, and feel like a million bucks. Seriously, I don't think I've ever felt this great ever. I did start taking these vitamins:

It is a lot, I think 8 or 9 pills, which is more than I thought it would be but I can feel a difference.

Oh waitaminute! On a serious note, this sounds like a lame excuse, but playing video games. Maybe a 10-15 minute session. It's the only thing I don't mind doing in a morning stupor, and playing a game gets your brain into high gear pretty quickly if you're even the slightest bit into it. I swear by it. The only problem is making yourself drop the game after a few minutes and not convincing yourself that '5 more minutes is ok'.

Is that really effective? I was always scared to do it in the morning because I felt I would be tired at work all day.

    my answer as well.

My manager and a coworker swear by this drink called Speed Stack:
    http://www.vitaminbungalow.com/prod_images_large/speed.jpg
saying it gives them energy throughout the whole day.

The coworker used to work at GNC and is a workout warrior. Not sure they use it in the morning but they do in the daytime.

I have a meeting with my boss to see what he's going to tell me to do the rest of the day. That's a real pick-me-up, ladies and gentlemen.

take some fish oil. i don't know if it helps with energy but it's great for your body nonetheless. i don't think many people are aware of it's benefits.

    fish oil

Some experts believe that taking fish oil (in any form) can help regulate cholesterol in the body, because fish oil has high levels of Omega 3. The regulation occurs through effects of the EPA and DHA constituents on Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα). Besides cholesterol regulation, benefits include anti-inflammatory properties and positive effects on body composition. However, the preferred source of Omega 3 should be from the fish's body, not the liver. The liver and liver products (such as cod liver oil ) of fish and many animals (such as seals and whales) contain Omega-3, but also the active form of Vitamin A. At high levels, this form of the vitamin can be dangerous. Early explorers to the land of the Inuit were given raw liver by the natives, which contained a toxic overdose of Vitamin A for the white explorers; however, the same amount was harmless to the Inuit, who had no other source of Vitamin A except animal livers.

Some studies[4] were conducted on prisoners in England where the inmates were fed seafood which contains Omega Three Fatty acids. It was observed that the high consumption of these fatty acids led to a drop in the homicide rates. Another study was conducted in Finland where they found that prisoners who were convicted of violence had lower levels of Omega Three Fatty Acids than normal. It was suggested that these kinds of fatty acids are responsible for the neuronal growth of the frontal cortex of the brain which in turn is responsible for the personal behavior.

The American Heart Association recommends the consumption of 1g of fish oil daily, preferably by eating fish, for patients with coronary heart disease.[5]

The US National Institute of Health lists three conditions for which fish oil and other omega-3 sources are most highly recommended (Grade A scientific evidence): Hypertriglyceridemia, Secondary cardiovascular disease prevention and High blood pressure. It then lists 27 other conditions for which there is B or C grade evidence. It also lists possible safety concerns: "Intake of 3 grams per day or greater of omega-3 fatty acids may increase the risk of bleeding, although there is little evidence of significant bleeding risk at lower doses... Very large intakes of fish oil/omega-3 fatty acids ("Eskimo" amounts) may increase the risk of hemorrhagic (bleeding) stroke."[6]

According to a study from Louisiana State University in September 2005, fish oil may help protect the brain from cognitive problems associated with Alzheimer's disease. [7]

It is absolutely effective. I used to get more sleep (get up around 7:00 or later) when I didnt work out and felt like I'd been run over. Now I get up at 4:45 go work out and I have infinitely more energy. While I don't prefer to get up early (not a morning person) it just works out better for me to work out in the morning. I always seem to have something come up or I just don't feel like going to the gym after work. I've also seemed to find that when I work out in the evenings, I have a hard time going to sleep at night because I'm so wound up. Starting to work out again has been one of the best things I've ever done. In the last month I think I've lost around 20 lbs.

This is a great idea. I think I'm going to start doing the "Wii Fitness" thing on Wii Sports first thing in the morning.
