First of all, this is not a trash talking thread. We already beat that dead horse. This question has nothing to do with who's better between Vince and Leinart, who has the more accomplished career or things of that nature.

In an earlier discussion, someone said Vince didn't care about winning the Heisman, just winning. That was obviously incorrect based on what he said yesterday. I can't remember it perfectly word for word (I know i'm not the only person who watched Sportcenter though) and he said " If you want a leader, someone who put his team on his back and went undefeated , then I think i should get it. If you want a highlight, then he deserves it. He's a good player though". He also went on to say " I didn't play most of the second halfs because Mack doesn't like to run up the score (really? I constantly found myself wondering why he was still in in plenty of games including the Colorado game) and if I had then my stats would be a lot better." This is almost exactly what Vince said.

My take on this is that i was actually shocked he would say that (considering I'm sure it will go right up in Reggie's locker as soon as it hits print if it hasn't already) and that it seemed completely out of character for him. UT ran the score up plenty this season (who cares there's nothing wrong with it) but Vince was in the game a lot more then he thinks he was or realizes because that statement is way off base. He also fails to remember that Bush splits time with White and has less chances then Vince does. Lastly, Bush is just a highlight? That's crazy.

This isn't Young bashing (and I'm honestly suprised nobody has touched on it) but I don't think it was a good choice of words and I was really suprised to see Vince openly campaigning for the Heisman.

I don't think anyone really cares, and that is why it wasn't touched on.

He should just stay humble and worry about winning that championship. Wearing that championship ring on his finger for the rest of his life will look a lot better than a trophy on his mantle will.

Maybe he is just giving his opinion, but it would have been better off if he didn't bring Bush into the argument.

What question was he asked? Was this in response to "What do you think about the Heisman?" or "Compare you and Reggie Bush in regards to your rules on the team and the Heisman trophy?" Different situations entirely.

    I understand that
    but
I think the media has gone above and beyond to hype Bush up
and annoit him the GREAT ONE
to an extent .. . one gets the feeling they downing Young to Raise Bush
    in some instances

This man is just speaking his heart . . nothing wrong with that
maybe he tired of the Bush Love fest

I did not know . . but USC has not face a HARSH defense all year
the best Defense they faced was #41 in the country

This is soooo often missed. With everyone who is covered in the media. We read a statement and we have no idea what the question was to begin with.

i don't think it's that big of a deal. he was asked. he answered. i don't think it's wrong of him to think he deserves it. reggie will win it, but vince is really just as deserving. they're both outstanding college football players. they'll have a lot of time to hang out together in NYC. i have a feeling they'll get along just fine. i don't think the comments were "locker room" motivation for reggie.

Of course nobody cares in "Vince Young is God" country. If Bush had said similar comments, there would be a ten page thread on this board by now...

    Exactly.

There's nothing wrong with Vince thinking he deserves the Heisman (if he thought otherwise it would be a much greater concern) but he should have stuck to promoting himself and not brought Bush into the equation. He talked himself up and then called Bush a "highlight". I think he caught what he did and then said "but he's a good player." Obviously the question was asked in regards to the Heisman. I promise Reggie will at least remeber this at game time if it's not posted in his locker. I expected a little more then " nobody cares". Oh well.

i thought it was interesting hearing up here in austin that the heisman race was supposedly really bothering vince and that he was trying too hard to impress in the a&m game. i really hope young gets off this crap and relaxes because this seriously bothers me.

It was something to the effect of if he thought he deserved the Heisman. It was like "Why do you think you sghould win the Heisman this year" or "Who do you think should win the Heisman this year". It was something like that. He wasn't set up to mention Bush's name, he was put in a situation to where he either says "I'm just focusing on the game" or "I think I deserve it and heres why". Both were acceptable to me without him mentioning Reggie Bush. The reasons for the post were to point out that Vince did in fact care about winning the Heisman (something others disputed) and to see how UT fans felt about him calling out Bush somewhat. Both Bush and Leinart have been deflecting the questions. Good point by the person who said this was seemingly getting to Young( he seemed a tad annoyed) but you can't really tell for sure. In terms of those ssaying he should be mad because of the Bush hype machine , Vince has been on two SI covers already this season. That argument is trash.

What do you think of your chances to win the Heisman?

    Also from the same interview:

Do you wish the Heisman was awarded after the Rose Bowl, since the top three players are all expected to be playing in that game??

Not really. I want to get it out of the way. I'm tired of hearing about it.

He threw one pass in the second half. He always plays in the first drive of the second half in any game.

You sure this isn't a Young bashing post?

Running the score up is calling timeout while up 51-3 to plan a trick play. Texas has regularly fair caught punts in the third quarter to not run up the score.

Now, they do still have to run plays. I think it would be insulting to start kneeling the ball before the last drive. It would be a slap in the face.

UT had walkons playing in alot of games this year. Have you even watched any UT games this year or do you just see the score and say "ooh, Mack is running it up." How late was Bush and Leinart in the UCLA game? I could've sworn they played in the 4th quarter.

This isn't a "UT wins with class" post. They're not the only ones that do this. OU knelt it at our ten yard line last year while up 12-0.

It isn't a Young bashing post. You can take it anyway you want but the only thing I'm questioning is his choice of bringing Bush into it. I wouldn't put the guy in the game period because I wouldn't want to risk him getting injured. He made said he didn't get the same chances as others and that's simply not true.

I never criticzed them for doing so though. I didn't even factor it in and made a point of saying it after I said "UT runs the core up". You just chose to take only that part and respond. It doesn't matter to me if they d or don't and has no bearing in the argument except applying it to Vince saying he could have put up more numbers if he had the same amount of opportunities (which he did, probably more so then Bush)

I'd always run up the score.

**** that's the only way you really rub it in.
