What do you think of the Tyreke Evans 20-5-5 thing last night?

Jonathan Feigan didn't like it much (see below).

I tend to agree. Caught the game on NBA League Pass, with the Kings broadcast team (Napear and Reynolds) and all they obsessed over all day was Tyreke getting his 20-5-5 season. It got a bit silly. Not sure if the obsession lost them the game (it's not like Tyreke only started hogging the ball when he got 18 points... he was doing it at the beginning, too, when he was hitting everything), but it's just weird anyone is happy losing because you hit some stats benchmark. Sure, he joins Oscar Robertson, Jordan and Lebron as the only rookies to go 20-5-5.... but there's someone who got close-- 18-5-6-- as a rookie who didn't turn out to be an all-time great.

I don't know if it's ever good to encourage a player to focus on personal stats, especially when the guy (even a talented guy) already has ball-hog tendencies.

    What do you think?

I think he's great at Scoring and can rebound but he's a classic ball hog.

Kings need to bring in a Vet PG to teach him the right way to play before it's too late.

    BTW, Wrong forum ;)

Unfortunately, He was not really ball-hogging just for last night's statistics; that is how he plays anyways.

He should be a SG not a PG. He's 6'6 and has pg qualities yet abuses them if he uses them at all.

I felt justice was served when, right after the second free throw went through the hoop and the crowd went nuts, Aaron Brooks flew down the court, dumped a layup in and shut everyone up.

I just like the fact he missed like 10 straight shots to accomplish the feat...

Kings decided to tank. They were around 15-16 or something earlier in the year and decided to squash this season for the future. It's a conspiracy. Tyreke Evans' accolade as ROY and 20-5-5 became a priority --no doubt-- for the coaching staff and franchise owners (Maloofs). They needed the publicity and they got it. ESPN even picked up a Kings game.

Next year, I imagine Tyreke to play better basketball, especially if he buys a jump shot. 20-5-5 on 46% in a rookie season without being able to shoot is amazing no matter how you look at it. His % is better than most perimeter players who have his responsibility.

It's true that he holds the ball for a bit too long, but then again, who else would you rather have with the ball? No one is even an option, besides maybe Beno Udrih. When Evans gets a shot and can stay as a threat in the outside, I'm sure he'd be more willing to throw it inside.

Evans is good and has superstar potential. Unfortunately, this year, there was an agenda.

I agree with Carl H. and Feigan. Their broadcast team was an embarrassment. They made it a joke. One of them in particular (perhaps someone knows his name... which is Napear and which is Reynolds?) bellowed about the "stat" and the freakin' "countdown" to such an extent that by the time Evans managed it (great defense, Rocks!), it was an anti-climax. The other broadcast dude kept trying to get the blabbermouth to tone it down, without success. At least one of them has a few brain cells.

Having said all that, it was an outstanding accomplishment and the Kings are lucky to have Mr. Evans.

I think they have a very talented guy on their team and he's about the only thing they have to cheer about.

We have a 7'6" guy coming back to make us nearly instant contenders (depending on what moves Morey makes) and we have a group of guys that are worth cheering for... not just one guy (or two - because they better be cheering for Carl too).

So let them have their 20-5-5 guy and celebrate it... I'll take the win to continue to instill a winning mentality into the young ones.

:) It was win win for both teams as far as I'm concerned.

I think Tyreke Evans is the second coming of Steve Francis. But then what do I know. I used to think Dwyane Wade was the poor man's Francis.

End of the season marketing ploy.

Same thing as Morey saying the Rockets are the best team without an all star since 1976...

Just some stuff to market the team.

    Not efficient.

Will not win playing that way.

Kobe without the surrounding talent and a lot less efficiency.

Will not win playing that way.
