    I'm serious. ..

    I think a bunch of criminals
    juvenile delinquents
    would be better served with a GOOD CANING

    PUBLIC CANINGS

    why is the death penalty humane . . but caning is not?

    I guess we have a lot more non Texans reading this board than I thought. First, there's a thread where a majority of the people are against the death penalty, and now most people don't support a good whack to the ass. I think it would be a good alternative to jail time for non violent crimes like shoplifting, drug offenses, GTA, and DWI with no fatalities. Heck, prisons could even offer deals to prisoners to get out of jail early if they take a few whacks.

    ...It has to be done RIGHT, though...bare ass, and use a machine to control the force of the blows so somebody can't complain that his buddy got whacked less forcefully than he did...

    I remember getting alot of 'caning' in school, except they used a paddle and it wasn't public (normally a coach or principle or teacher took the honors)

    Then they banned the paddle and presto I no longer cared how many days off they gave me- I just went surfing.

    I still wonder how I graduated????

    I'm all for it and done in public to shame them. This would definitely cut down on the number non violent criminals in prison. However, repeat offenders should get the cane and the pen.

    I also think we should use a Cat o' 9 tails instead of a cane. For the violent offenders we should bring back the guillotene and public hanging. Life would be great then.

    Columbine bullies? Are you talking about the kids who made fun of the kids who shot up the school? or the kids who did the shooting?

    Why don't we just impose Sharia while we are at it? After all we keep on hearing people on this BBS how we aren't held to the same standards as repressive Islamic societies so lets just go all the way.

    Caning isn't the same as paddling or even putting people into the stocks. Its much more like whipping. As some posters have, I think tongue in cheek mentioned, if we are going to consider caning we might as well consider bringing back flogging with a cat o' nine tails.
