What do you think are realistic expectations for Yao next year? 20/10/4/3?

I think that if he can do that, the rox will easily make the playoffs. Maybe he'll be more like 17/9 but I'm hoping 20/10. Is that realistic?

Anything less than 18/10/2.5 blocks and 2.5 assists will be disappointing IMO.

If JVG is anything we hope he is. The team is going to play completely different. With a system and lots of team work and great defense.

    I think Yao will be a 25ppg, 5assist/game, 4 blocks, 12 rebs guy.

    realistically, 15-16 pts, 9 rb/game, 2 assists, 2 blocks

    Reason:

YM does not add more on his offensive arsenal during the off-season. He does not put more weight. He regressed on his defensive techniques.

and finally, he will get tired again starting from the middle of the season and will run on fumes by the end of the season.

I think the mental experience is something a lot of people don't account for. I think he has a big barrier brought down that will only help...He will have a 100% better expectation factor than based on nothing at all last year. Because of this his game will come much easier and the work will be easier this time around. I expect better numbers especially in points.

    rvpals-

do you mean next year? I hope so, but that might be expecting a little too much. I think eventually 28/15/5/5 will be what Yao averages but probably not for a few years.

I agree that Yao should feel much more at ease next year and I hope he is more assertive. He has a great 3 point stroke and he only took two last year.

how do you know? I thought he had a rep as a real hard worker? I hope that he has worked during the off season.

Sun12's stats seem the most accurate. I still see Steve getting about 24ppg and maybe 7-8 assists, and Yao will probably end up with about 15-16ppg and 10 rebounds or so.

    Thank you!

Think about it. If you go to college for a year, then during the summer, you go back to high school, study with high school kids, and do a lot of homework with high school kids. You are not going to learn too much even though your college professor give you some assignments during the summer. You just do not have enough time to do your college professor's assignment.

    18/10/3.0/2.5

will actually be in training camp, atleast the last half, and all of preseason. thats already a huge jump from lastseason. new offensive scheme designed around yao. no more of the dribble-itis of the gaurds, yao will get more shots, + better shots, cuz there will be real plays designed for him, no more going 1 on 1 in the low post while everyone stands and watches.

How will he be in training camp? The Asian games have been delayed 2 weeks, and will not finish until Oct 3. Then he will take a few days to get packed up and a couple of days to fly to Houston.

I hope him nothing but the best next year, but how effective will JVG run the offense through Yao, when he will not be here to practice with his teammates?

If I was the Rockets I would fly the team to China, to practice! Hell, why not!

Ming is the hub around which the team will be built. He is still a few years away for peak performance, but he is likely to be much improved, especially under JVG. He was poorly utilized last year, then he just ran out of gas. The upside on this kid is huge. I like his size, skills, and attitude. May never be Wilt Jr. but could become very difficult to stop from scoring, rebounding, and blocking shots. His passing skills could make him a major playmaker. :) :) :)

You are out of touch with what is going on! This offseason Yao Ming is DAILY doing his Rockets training set by the Rockets. Is is possible for Yao Ming to make a natural improvement because of experience , that and his training should make a noticible difference.

No more 1 on 1? You can't possibly believe that anyone can design an offense that will get this guy to the basket unchecked for easy dunks and layups most of the time. The best bigmen score most of the time going 1 on 1 or 1 on 2. For Yao to score, other guys need to score as well so that they won't double team as much.

SHlT! It sounds like Yao's National Team obligations are really stunting his growth. China should let him develop over here until the 2008 Olympics and then have him join the NT. That way they get the most out of his talent and possibly a medal during their home country games. It seems like they aren't thinking long-term here.

    My prediction:

If this drags on for a couple of years, something is going to happen either YM renegotiates with the CBA or the Rox thinks a trade. Given JVG's temper, I do not know how he is going to take this.
