They just beat Boston today to take the first place lead in the AL East over the likes of the Red Sox and Yankees. They've consistently had one of the worst records in the bigs since their inception in the league and they have the best record in baseball.....now. Where do you think they'll finish?
I hope they do well. It would be hilarious if they beat the Sox/Yankees and won it all. I am friends with their GM, Andrew Friedman. Looks like Hunsicker has helped him build a winner. Too bad they still have terrible attendance and one of the worst parks in basebal...they are an exciting young team
I noticed that when I looked at today's box score. They only filled 82% of the stadium for a first place game in the AL East.
I'l be pulling for them because they have a lot of Houston Area connections. Drayton, Gerry Hunsigger/Huntsnicker/Humdigger wants to know how his ass taste. I don't like the Yankees or the Red Sox or the entire northeast sports team.
Gotta root against them because they're in the AL East with my Jays, but I would love it if they finished ahead of Boston and New York.
I think they need a new promotions coordinator to help them move seats. And I think before they build this beautiful new ballpark they need to stop and consider the weather in Florida:
I read somewhere where somebody said, "Well, they should be good considering they have had the #1 pick for the last 10 years in a row." I'm not going to be that callous, but they are a good team. I still have my doubts that they will be able to do anything in the postseason, but I do think they will be in the playoffs whether as the AL East champion or the wildcard.
I think baseball is a sport that based on alot of team chemistry and how well a team can go through losing streaks. It'll be great, if the Devil Rays make the playoffs and even win the AL East.
That new stadium proposed by the Rays does have a roof... "The roof, likened to a giant sail, will produce an umbrella effect, retaining the open-air feel. Rays officials, working with HOK Sport architects, deemed a traditional retractable roof impractical because of the small site and undesirable, since it would block the water views. The design calls for climate-cooling techniques that will lower temperatures 8-10 degrees. Those include keeping the "sail" up during the days before games. Michael Kalt, the Rays senior vice president of development and business affairs, said the process should at least make the mid-summer temperature inside the stadium comparable to those in Baltimore, Kansas City, and St. Louis." http://tampabay.rays.mlb.com/news/a...ent_id=2313331&vkey=news_tb&fext=.jsp&c_id=tb
It kinda has a roof I'm thinking if there's a thunderstorm (and they're not called the Tampa Bay Lightning for nothing), you're not playing baseball.
Another problem is that their stadium is in St. Pete, not Tampa. I just don't think Florida is a baseball state...look at the Marlins as well.
If you get the number one (or 2 or 3) overall pick for enough years in a row.... eventually you're gonna have some really good players.
