This question got mentioned by someone who didn't really make it the center of his post, but I think it's a great question. What does everyone here like about the Rockets? I live in Virginia, so I haven't seen a game at all this year and I saw one or two last year (Screw TBS/TNT for taking their 4 games in 2 weeks off the schedule). But I can't count the number of times that I've read the post-game report to find out that they were down by 20 or 25 at halftime, then come storming back in the third and the fourth to lose by 2 or 3. I know it's frustrating as hell, but you gotta love how they never give up (ignoring the blatant tanking at the end of this season). It seems like it's the one constant from 94 and 95. Being down 3-1 to Phoenix comes to mind as does winning the 95 championship as a 6 seed. It was so much fun to watch Hakeem tool everybody (Robinson and Shaq come to mind) when he was on top of his game and carrying himself and 11 role players (in 94) and 10 role players in 95 to the championship. I also lived in Houston for 13 years and they represent what I love about the city and what I remember. So take this question and spill your guts.
I became a fan back in the twin tower days because I thought it was cool having those two 7 footers in the lineup. Once that happened, I was emotionally attached to the team. When they win, I'm happy, and when they lose, I feel bad. Basically, it really boils down to that. I like it when they win. It can be by coming back, or blowing someone out. They can play beautifully or horribly, it doesn't matter. Style doesn't matter. Clown suits don't matter. Winning is good, losing is bad.
I didn't become a big fan until 1999. I was 12 and 13 years old when they won the Championships and I watched each game, but I never watched a regular season game during those years. Things got stale for a while and I wasn't very interested during the Barkley years. When Pippen came, I watched a few games, but Pip didn't play the way I thought he would. When we got Steve Francis, I remember thinking about the articles I had read about him and what an exciting player he was. It was the first player we have had since Dream that was a top 3 pick and I could just feel the new energy coming into this team that had once been called the Jurassic Park of the NBA. It's been tough watching the team struggle for the last 3 years, but that just means I'm going to appreciate it more when we get to the playoffs. I suppose what draws me to this team is the fact that this a team of guys from my generation. I'm the same age as Griffin and after the draft, there will be more players who were born in the 80's on this team.
