I'm leaning more towards Yao being a 2nd tier all-star on the Webber and Francis level. However it would not surprise me if he elevated to a MVP level of play. Hopefully he will.

If Yao wants to be a MVP candidate, Rudy needs to do a good job on the league referees to give Yao more foul shots, at least 10 FTs/game. Together with 8/16 FGA, .800 FT percentage, Yao can average 24 points/game, on par with Duncan's numbers.

The number of FTs will be key, IMO. Of course, Yao has to be a bit more aggressive, but referees still have to call the fouls. Phil Jackson did a good job on pushing the referees to call more foul shots for Shaq the first year he went to the Lakers. Rudy should do this too gradually, starting from next year.

some one said a center won't make much more advance than his first year, thus yao will only be a 18points 10rebs player. but i think yao's problem is his fitness, imagine if he make his fitness up in next few years(and he already has made some in this year) he will have all the shaq now have. it's easy for a 7'5 320pounds big man with that quickness to get 25points 12reb every game. and if he want be a mvp he needs to develop some skill which is in a class by himself like great hook shot

Hakeem didn't become a serious MVP candidate until he's 26/27.

Yeah... but the question was, "What do you expect Yao's performance will be when he's TWENTY FIVE?" Did I say when he's 26/27? Gosh, please read before replying.

I think Francis and Marion belongs to a different level, one level down on Dirk and Webber, but above that of Z and Miller.

Oh, and I think Yao would be close to a MVP contender by the time he is 25 :)

The following pictures of Yao's past to his present will make you appreciate his hardwork and dedication to achieve only one goal...to win championships.

It took Yao only a few short months of his young NBA life to get two pythons in his arms(something Bradley has yet to achieve in 10 years. :D ), swatted 3 consecutive times on the most dominant force in the NBA and made his fat ass splashed all over the floor. (should be in one of the "greatest moment" in NBA history.) Then he went to Motown and dunk over the two time-defensive player of the year with authority. At this rate, there is no doubt, he's going have a very good chance to develope into an MVP type caliber in 2-3 years.

This was not 4 years ago. This was around 2000 Sydney Olympics so it's 3 years ago.

BTW, was it fateful that there was a Steve Francis story on this copy of the magazine as well?

By looking at these pics I think he will be a monster and 'almost illegal' as CD stated in 3 years time.

    Go Yao! Go Rocks!

an all start like Brad Miller????? give me a break! only reason dude got in the game is due to the fact that someone has to play center in the east....Marion and Yao are way ahead of Miller.....

Nowitski and Webber are MVP candidates this year. Webber was the front-runner until he got hurt.

That's creepy they had an article on Stevie the same issue they had Yao a few years back, fate???

What the hell are they feeding Yao? His arms look twice as big as they were at the start of the season. Hope it doesn't affect his shooting. I thought it would hurt Kobe's game after he gained like 15 lbs. of muscle, but it looks like he's better than ever.

Yeah..., but Brad Miller played in the all-star game and thus is an all-star. The definition of the all-star game means playing in the all-star game. Plain and simple. Yeah, the East has no good centers, and that's why he's an all-star in the East. Please go clean up your head, think, then write. It isn't that hard.

Yeah, but look at Collier in that last picture. He's deeply absorbed in his pregame reading material (presumably an Archie comic book). Now THAT'S dedication!

The Rockets trainers are doing an awesome job on Yao's body. Kudos.

His developement (physically and basketball wise) has been great this season.
