What do you expect the Rockets to do this offseason? 1. Make minor adjusments with new coach 2. Revamp with a new coach 3. Make small trades with JVG 4. Revamp with players that JVG really wants (?)
I expect them to be pretty pumped up about the Suns next week. If they aren't, then there really is no hope for this group. As far as Rocket's management, based on their track record, very uncertain. The TMac trade was bold and beautiful. So many others have been head-stratchers. It doesn't have to be a blockbuster, it just has to right. We need a catalyst, someone to start the fire.
I expect a PF trade by Thursday. Maybe a new starting SG too. Only a true impact player would pry Rafer away. Rafer stays for sure.
The biggest changes will come at the starting PF and SG positions, new backups at PG, SG, and SF too, and maybe a high profile assistant coach is added to the coaching staff.
I'm thinking it will be one or two small deals. I just can't see a player of big impact (meaning a player who become a starter now and for the future) that either the Rockets would be seriously interested in and/or they have the pieces to acquire. Maybe a Stro+DA+NY 2nd for Battie+Nelson or something along those lines. I agree starting SG & PF are the positions we need to upgrade for this point on, but who is available that could fill those areas that they could realistically get? Exactly!
I doubt there are any pf's out there that are respectable and obtainable. And the ones that are out there, Suck.
Sign an aging and veteran PF like Antonio Davis to "tutor" Swift but in actuality share the bulk minutes with Juho. Draft a PG.
Assuming that Tracy and Yao are ok at the end of this season, then the Rockets Management should easily come to conclude something like this:- The team overall is too old/slow and lacks in leadership, also athletic & basketball talent. Potentially they would not trade Tracy and Yao, but possibly might trade Rafer,Bogans,Hayes, Head & Lampe if the right players came their way. But most certainly would be on the look out for replacements for Berry.Wesley. Sura, Mutombo, Swift[Failed CD experiment], Howard, Bowen[failed JVG experiment] & Anderson, some of which have expiring contracts. Strongest needs: An established name to take over coaching the Rockets Offence. A more progressive and hands on Big Mans Coach, one who instills confidence & determination.A back up Point Guard that can penetrate and dish out the pass.[one who doesn't dribble too much, good passer and three point shooter] Starting and back up Power Forwards, at least one must be 7'. athletic, strong and know how to play basketball the american way[A frame of mind being a cross between Patterson and Artest]. Two Shooting Guards, Min 6'6". speedy accurate and athletic. Mutombo might have to remain another year inorder for his position to be filled. The rules have changed the game and the Rockets must think in fresh ways and should not keep players that show limited ability to understand the Game, even after years of experience [Swift] Our scouting needs to be given a jolt of electric energy [High Voltage if possible] Les might have to live upto his word and go over the threshold if we get the chance of a star addition. All new additions should be players with character that are willing to play the game with a view to winning. JVG's negative way of coaching and criticizing his team must go.
This one disturbs me We trade for JVG type players. . .they don't work out then we say . ..well they not JVG type players JVG will have to learn to coach with any player not with HIS TYPE PLAYERs Rocket River
My thoughts as well when I read the initial post. JVG can't hide behind the claim that these aren't "his" type of players anymore, because I don't know how many players we've gone through now.
Especially considering that JVG is the one who has been deciding who comes to Houston and who leaves. CD only does what JVG asks him to do.
I expect them to do nothing much for the rest of the season and wind up in the NBA lottery again. Then it all hits the fan and either JVG or CD will be the fall guy for what happened this season.
