The Rockets expectations for T-Mac have to be lower now than they ever were. And, with that, so are our championship aspirations in the short term. McGrady's got this year and next year left on his contract. There are murmurs that the Rockets are starting to seriously consider trades for him (probably to an Eastern Conference team). What do you do? Here are the options: - Plan to trade him this season for the best deal you can get - Keep him for now, hoping to salvage the season, but look to trade him in the offseason - Hold on to him until the trade deadline next year, where we can get perhaps the best deals for his expiring contract - Keep him up through next season, hoping for the best, and then pursue other players in the 2010 free agent class - Keep him, and plan on extending him to a modest deal.
You give him a raise! I take.... Why? Because I think he'll come around but you can't expect to have some great leader in him. T-Mac has never been what everyone wants him to be. He will never be. But when healthy, he can do things that not many can do. His playmaking skills are one of the best in the league. Maybe not this year but if he was healthy, no one could question that.
I was thinking about this the other day and I know that we are waiting on the big name stars coming up in 2010 but I honestly feel if we could package a deal together to get someone that may not be a huge star but someone that is consistant and has a 20 points per game average I would go ahead and pull the trigger even though we may be out on 2010.
this one: F) tell him to stop showing up to games, and keep him until his contract expires.. this will essentially destroy this b*stard's career as no one will pick him up after he hasn't played for 2 years, and then we can ask him "hey Tracy, who had the last laugh?"
Sit him out until he is fully healthy both mentally and physically which means he will never play again, then use his salary to bring in some decent players.
My answer is totally dependent on what the rest of the players in the clubhouse think. If they think he is dogging it, or is a problem, then you jettison him now...or Marbury him. If they want to wait it out..you do it. Personally, I am inclined to trade him now. DD
I say give him another half season and then trade him at the deadline for the best deal. My reasoning is because he's got little value right now. Sure, his contract is attractive for the summer 2010 free agent market, but his actual play is terrible. I'm pretty sure we'd get low balled left and right. Basically, I don't see his health getting any worse than it is now, so we might as well ride it out for bit and see it if gets better. I think another half season of fairly healthy play could raise his value considerably, and that combined with some teams that are desperate to pick up a big expiring contract at next year's deadline, he could bring us something very nice in a trade.
Do not think we can get any good deal from him in any time before 2010, then only logical choice for me is to wait for his deal expire, then make a run for Wade, J. Jonson, or C. Bosh.
I would re-introduce him to all players in the locker room: This is Tracy T. Mcgrady. Second best shooting guard in the league. Think of that on the court before you do something stupid.
That's actually closer to the truth. Seriously. And if we get even more literal, then he's about the 5th best shooting guard.
Pull the rip cord on him in the summer ie.(during the draft). I think they really have no choice but to finish the season with him.
