I was looking at other web sites and I ran across a NJ Nets fansite forum. The fans in this particular forum (and others as well) were proposing a trade of Van Horn for a defensive center. What if we traded Cato and either one or both of KT and WW for Van Horn? He is a little slow to play the 3, but throw him on a frontline with Webber and we would have a lot of size and scoring up front. Van Horn could play the 4 in stretches and maybe Rudy and CD could add to his game. Van Horn is the perfect complimentary player for a team like ours. He can post up smaller 3s and take 4s out on the floor (basically a better Croshere). Add in our 3 picks in the first round of this draft and we have got a solid well rounded team. 1 Francis/Mooch 2 Mobes/Grizzard(last pick) 3 Van Horn/Morris(mid pick)/Langhi 4 Webber/Collier 5 Olajuwon/Curry(first pick) ------------------ Calvin Murphy for President!
Okay, I may have went a little overboard in getting us Curry. I do think that if we have three picks in the first round then we should be able to select the players that we will need to compete for a title in the next few years. Morris and Grizzard should be there in the late first round, Curry won't be a Rocket unless we win the lottery. That being said, maybe Woods or Johnson would be available. ------------------ Calvin Murphy for President!
Van Horn is completely overrated, and he's always injured. Besides, if we traded for him we wouldn't have the cap room to get webber anyway. ------------------
Van Horn is a good player, certainly worth Cato, Walt, KT (I dunno if they'd do that). If we could get a defensive stud at center (or keep Olajuwon), Van Horn would compliment Mo Taylor at forward perfectly, by making up Mo's board deficiency. sfr-If we traded Cato and Walt for him, we would have the cap. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
This was my thinking in this scenatio. Van Horn is a big 3 who can score and rebound. He doesn't have all the tools to be a franchise player (so if you are judging him to one then yeah he is overrated). But what he can be is a vital cog on a good team. He is a solid double double kind of guy who is capable of scoring big. I think that he is just a step below the Shareefs of the NBA. The biggest problem is his contract, but if the Nets would take Cato and some of the contracts like Walts then we could still pursue Webber this year. This trade does worry me with regards to re-signing Steve, but I am not a capologist and don't know how feasible both Webber and Van Horn would be with this group of guys. ------------------ Calvin Murphy for President!
U know . . I was thinking Doesn't this describe the Whole New Jersey Squad? Maybe they need to fire their Trainer and Conditioning Coach Rocket River ------------------
We should have Steve's Bird right Plus the Cap will be done expanded by then So it is not a real concern Rocket River ------------------
I'd rather we went after LaFrentz instead. According to Oeilpere, the Rockets are still interested in him. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Hottoddie (edited April 01, 2001).]
UT Baller, how come you did not include Shandon Anderson or Maurice Taylor in your lineup? ------------------
The reason that I didn't include Taylor and Anderson is first that I dont think that their would be enough room to sign either one of them if we had Webber and Van Horn. Secondly, I am not convinced that they are what we need at their position. We already signed Mobley to a long term, lucrative contract. Mobes is the guy playing at the end of the game, period. SA will seek fat cash this offseason and I think that we could either draft or sign a cheaper veteran- defensive specialist. Taylor is redundant if we have Webber. ------------------ Calvin Murphy for President!
