I am a fan from China, registered to this board when Yao Ming picks started to turn Rox way. For months i remained a watcher, to get information. The recent YM breakthrough performance raised my eyes and heart beating, and raised some discussing on this board over the individule roles of specific players, most YM vs. S Francis debate on who should be leading the team. This worries me. Yes, I become a rox fan now because of YM and I will be a YM fan probably more for the foreseeable time. That’s the fact, and I guess many new arrivals to this board are in the same category. I read question here ask if YM shift to another to another team, will YM fans shift. I probably will. However, so long YM is here and I am here, I will be a Rox fan, and try to be a good one. I do not believe the argument over who is the leader of team help you win the game at all. We are in a very much commercialized environment, players already have way too much to worry about everything that can be even marginally related to the publicity, which I believe distracts them from the basketball court. And please do not add our share to distract them more. You might or might not need a leader in the team, but please do not talk it in the same time you talk about the play. YM played some good games, and it did not make him a leader. He will be the first option in some games and might not be the best choice in others. You have 29 teams in NBA and they are different. We can help with identify these differences to help the team adjust their first option accordingly, if Rudy and team would visit here. But do not assign the leader to the team, not YM at least. Love player is good, but please love your team more. It took a tem to win the Championship!
Nice first post . There is no point (especially right now) in arguing over who should be the "leader" of the team, who is the best player, etc. It's still the team that matters. History will show who was the best player on the Rockets's team that won 5 straight championships from 2004-2009 .
Welcome tiger, nice post. As I said it the other post. This isn't itme to debate who is the leader, rather should be how to be a better leader. The way I see it, Yao Ming has some leadership quality in him, but he isn't and should not be the leader of this team right now. SF is and should be the team leader right now, but he can improve, and show his leasership on court b yhis composure, him directing the flows, encouraging the teammates. A leader is always team first, whatever takes to win. He who thinks Yao Ming is a leader isn't bright, he who thinks SF can't improve as a leader choose to be blind, he who leads to victory should be the leader, he who shoulders the loss is the leader, he who makes all the others better will be the leader.
i dont get the subject title...i would be happy if ming was a patrick ewing. the guy was a pretty damn good player. its not like he was a selfish/non-team player as well. there have been great players who were team players who didnt win championships. granted he is one of the ugliest human beings ever born, but he was a great basketball player.
man that was rude, you shouldnt say he was ugly. Why dont you post your pic on here so we can see you... Then people will judge you.
Nice first post tiger. I have a question for you: How is the allstar voting going over there in China? We need fans like you to vote for Yao Ming along with his teammates.
Oh, i did it. And I know lots my friends did it too. All rox line up! But it was before YM told me he did not really want this, for avoiding confusion between teammates. He would be fine for just the rookie challenge..... So i am going to do that now. As for Ewing, i actually liked the guy, on the court that was. But think about his heartbroken retirement without a ring.....and broken hearts of NYK fans..... I don't want anything happen to my fragile heart like that.
Excellent post tiger and welcome. I share your sentiment of love of team coming over love of player... keep the posts coming.
The Ming-Rockets have more talent than the Ewing-Knicks ever had. Considering the Knicks were a single shot (or a friggin' yanking of Mr. Starks) away from winning the championship, another Ewing would be just fine for you guys.
Ewing + Starks, in their primes = buttkiss, obviously Ewing + Francis, in their primes = at least two championships, probably
