    After Yao returns....

If yao does return to his 24(maybe less)mpg monday and plans on slowly increasing them, where does Hill find minutes?
At this point i feel as though Hill has definitely earned quality minutes, but with yao taking 24 and miller taking another 20 and scola around 30+ that leaves about 20 minutes to be had by a big man that will either be given to Hill or Hayes or split between the two. Hayes would seem to have the coaches vote on this because of his defensive abilities BUT at some point you have to start using Hill in that reserve role where he's not worried about playing time and more focused on playing well and progessing. If we're going to transition Hill from a prospect into a player, he needs time on the court to continue to tap into that potential and I honestly think that those 20 or so mpg would be better served developing Hill's potential and utilizing his size... Hayes is solid as a rock, but Hill's size and athleticism are finally coming to light, and i think its time that this #8 overall pick begins the process to take the next step..
    WHO SHOULD GET THE MINUTES???

I think Chuck should be benched and let him come in to guard players like dirk and pau gasol. We can't bench Jordan. He can be a very good player in this league. He was a lottery pick for a reason

Hayes has been playing out of position for the most part this season with Yao out, which is unfortunate because I hoped to see him playing at his natural position this year.

Miller has been too good to not keep him in the rotation. Either Chuck or Hill will be out. With Hill, its about concentration, knowing where to be, and consistently playing hard. He fades in and out of games too often. That's the only reason why Adelman might consider playing Hayes in front of him, I think. I'd like to see more Miller+Hayes in the front-court, but I guess the concern there would be rebounding and lack of a post option when Miller is stationed at the 3-point line.

won't have to worry about this for a while...i wouldnt epxect yao to get 24 right off the bat...Ideally you want to give scola less minutes. He's been playing too much and it's hurting his "defense" late in games.

I'd say once Yao gets back in good shape:

    center- yao 24 Miller 18 Hill 6
    PF- Scola 30 Chuck 8 Hill 10

unfortunately, if hill isn't producing scola has to be back in there...so it's not easy to predict. If hill doesn't start rebounding consistently, then i would expect him to get closer to 10 mins a game.

Yao is likely coming off the bench in the short term (Chron.com's report said he volunteered to do it and Adelman is considering it).

My guess is Yao's minutes will be rather limited until he proves he is up to game speed.

Interesting. But if Yao is coming off the bench, then that would apparently squeeze Miller out of the rotation unless he starts.

agreed... Hill plays at a position where we have lots of quality players. Bud has come down to reality and Battier is good only on the defensive end.

Hill should be given minutes on normal matchup. We usually use Miller and Chuck for special occasion. (Miller to stretch defense, Chuck for off. beast PF) I wouldn't too worry about his minutes as he will definitely see some minutes should about around 15-20 avg minutes. Obv some night he won't get any minutes at all because it all depends on match up.

Miller may start. If he's good enough to finish games, he's good enough to start.

I think Adelman just has to concern himself with trying to win the games, given the record (not good yet, but looking better and close to a playoff position for now) rather than giving Yao "rehab minutes." If that means Yao gets 10 mpg until he proves himself ready, so be it. I doubt Yao would complain like McGrady did (though he certainly looked to be playing better than McGrady did any time last year or this year).

He needs to get his rebound game back up, we need a guy out there that can get rebounds, usually it is Scola, Battier or Lowry, but we are going to need another big that can do that.

Miller and Hayes are both situational players, they play depending on matchup.

I don't know but I have a feeling that a Yao Hill combination will be something we can try especially vs Big teams.

chuck should be out of the rotation with yao/miller splitting time at the 5 and hill continuing to gain experience behind scola.

but i doubt it works out that way since adelman is a veteran coach who is trying to win now. he will play chuck over hill.

The last player I would trade on this Rockets squad is Hill. He's got the highest ceiling of all our young players. If he adds some weight and continues to work on his game he can be a starter in a year or two.

Chuck has more to offer the Rockets at this point than Yao does.

Chuck is averaging about 22mpg since he went back into the starting lineup.

Perhaps these are the minutes that Yao will play when he comes back and Chuck is just holding his spot so chemistry is easier to achieve.
