Really try to help me out. 3 coaches (McHale, Bickerstaff, and D'Antoni) see something that I don't in neither the game or the box score. When I watch Brewer I see a long, wirey, 6-9 guy who hustles and brings good energy. He is fast on the break, but his finishing ability has declined. He doen't play good defense and it's 4 on 5 offense when he's on the court. His confidence is shot and he is scared to play his game. He tries to do too much instead of taking what the defense give him. So what is it that coaches see? Is it something in practice? How is KJ any worse on offense or defense? He might miss a rotation here or there, but at least defenses somewhat respect his shot. He is shooting 31.6% from 3 while Brewer is 11.8%.
All I can say is he's only getting 15 mpg with both Bev and DMo missing. Dekker's minutes are going up. DMA said just yesterday Bev will get 30 mpg. and surely DMo will get his usual. Brewer may go down to 0 minutes when we are at full complement. Until then, do we really need 4 threads essentially about Brewer vs KJ, when both of them probably aren't worth more than 10 mpg.
What do coaches see that you don't? Nude photos of themselves as blackmail material. That or a serial killer goat stalking them.
I didn't see any threads on the front page. It's a good time to start the thread with Bev returning. If Brewer plays more than 10 minutes in a non-blow out it stays up. If he doesn't it disappears. I really want to understand this. Instinctive, winning plays? Open 3 - air ball. A KJ Dunk is worth more than a wide open Brewer 3. Sure it's less points, but it gets the team fired up rather than saying thank God. Also, the other team is like ok we won't give him that much space next time or we can live with him making one because he will miss the next 3. Getting dunked on is intimidating as well.
He's been a worthwhile and contributing players before. They must feel that that player still exists are trying to find the right catalyst for him to excel once again.
KJ is worth more than 10 minutes a night, and frankly it is insulting to compare him to Brewer. I would rather be feeding Von Waffer crack rocks and bath salts and giving him playing time over Brewer. When he shoots he at least atempts to throw the ball at the basket.
Guys...relax The rising minutes of Dekker, and MDA's recent comments on DMo and Bev's minutes, plus MDA promising a smaller rotation in "3 weeks" or so, point to both KJ and Brewer losing out soon. They will only be injury replacements / garbage time. KJ is woth 10mpg on a bad team or an injury-riddled one. MDA's comments point to he is not worth 10 mpg at full complement of players, certainly not now that Dekker has ripped the SF minutes away from him....and Harden, Bev and EGo are going to play 100 mpg combined.
Here are the comments I'm referring to. I'm trying to inject some current events here, and remind everyone, so far, Brewer's minutes are down 5mpg from last year...while we are missing two major rotation players. Quotes below say that MDA is going to "whittle down the rotation" and Dekker's minutes are rising -- and he's seeing his first minutes at SF in the last game. imo, more of his PF minutes will shift to SF once DMo comes back. Rockets still figuring out playing rotation By Jonathan Feigen November 15, 2016 ----------------------------------------------------- The Rockets have been tinkering with their rotation, using Sam Dekker as a backup small forward in addition to his usual role as a reserve power forward. That reduced K.J. McDaniels' minutes, with McDaniels on Monday playing only when the benches were cleared in the final six minutes. Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said he could continue to experiment and would have to adjust again when Pat Beverley makes his season debut, like Thursday against the Trail Blazers. "We're still trying to hunt and peck a little bit, try to whittle down the rotation," D'Antoni said. "We're still looking at it a little bit. Then, we'll have to put Pat in and see how that changes things up. It'll be a little bit of a process for a couple, three weeks and then we'll settle in. "Obviously, Pat, it will take him a week or so to get the rust off. But he'll pick up 30 minutes. That's a big chunk of playing time he'll be good at." -----------------------------------------------------
I think Morey tells the coaches to play him cause his ego won't allow him admit he shouldn't have given him a contract or is trying to prove his worth so he can trade him
Corey Brewer is the worst player the Rockets have had in a while. Sure, we've had some non-NBA caliber players, but those guys didn't get playing time or if they did, at least they weren't doing stupid things or playing recklessly. Corey Brewer actively hurts the team when he's in the game via his turnovers, gambling for steals, unnecessary fouling, bricking of wide open shots, and missed layups. He is a one man momentum killer.
Veteran respect. KJ is much better. Sam has two-way potential so he gets the nod in a D'Antoni offense.
I've never seen a guy regress so badly. I remember when we first got him he was all over the place, getting hands in the passing lane, getting dunks on the break etc etc. After that classic 4th quarter in game 6 at Clippers he has not played a good game since.
i agree with HP. he's in there as a stop-gap until pat gets back. right now the minutes distribution is as follows: capela (23) - nene (20) ryno (32) - dekker (16) ariza (34) - brew (15) ego (32) - KJ (14) harden (37) - ennis (9) remaining minutes have gone to harrell, or garbage time. with MDA saying pat will see 30 minutes, you can see that coming directly from ennis, brewer, and KJ who total 38mpg. the remaining 8-10mpg will go to either kj/brewer (probably brewer since coaches love him for no reason) or harrell depending on matchup. that's what i THINK will happen, but what i'd LIKE to happen is to see james' minutes drop to about 34, and dekker's raise to about 24. something like this: capela (23) - nene (20) ryno (32) ariza (34) - dekker (24) ego (32) harden (34) - pat (30) *the rest of the minutes should go to harrell or KJ depending on matchup*
Loyalty in the NBA? What an interesting concept. I think OP said it, it's the hustle and energy, and ability on the fast break, things D'antoni is looking for.
