What did you do in the summer when you were a student?

For one summer I waited tables. The next, I worked in my department at SWT, then the next two I worked at a law firm.

Man, that department job was sweet. Sat there and read for 8 hours a day, answer one phone call each hour, and get paid for doing so.

 

High School? I took P.E. in summer school (so that it wouldn't affect my GPA... god I was a nerd).... Loads of fun!

College? Internships every year. And lots of basketball and Triple Play 96 on weekends and evenings.

 

Sleep.

Go Out.

Sleep.

Video Games.

Sleep.

Eat.

 

I just finished my sophomore year of college and I'm starting my second summer of work at the movies. Hella fun job. I also try to mix in a lot of leisure time....Lots of television, internet and trips. I'm going to Vegas this weekend!

 

Summer school.

Worked.

Practiced (musician).

More school.

More work.

More practice.

I'm placing a huge bet that all this hard work is gonna pay off eventually.

 

I was a camp counselor for band camps every summer. Free room and board while you go to summer school. That lasted until I got arrested. Long story...

After that I just went to summer school on campus. And drank a lot of beer. Not necessarily in that order. Hell, every once in a while I actually went to class.

yeah... you should get a job then you can have money to use to pick up girls in the fall.

but if you already have money... here's what i would have done -- nothing.

 

Sleep.
Summer school.
Get drunk.

Repeat.

 

I am still a student ever since 11th grade i have a very routine summer, go to Puerto Vallarta(Vayarta?) Mexico, get drunk, repeat.

 

Last summer I came home and didn't do jack. This summer I'm going to summer school since I'm way behind (switched degree's three times). And I'm also going to work on campus. Should be a great summer come June. Until than Im going to lay around the house watch basketball and go to as many astro games as I can.

 

Before college - lived off my parents. Went to cool residential summer programs for a few weeks every summer; otherwise, swam on the swim team, caught up with random stuff.

After freshman year - went home. Worked as an engineering intern. Decided I didn't want to live the "Dilbert" lifestyle beyond that summer.

After sophomore year - went to UT for (non-engineering) summer school. That was an education, in more ways than one. I didn't have much of a life, but I learned how to get by when all alone on a big and scary campus. Worked at Mr. Gatti's on MLK. Watched first Rockets championship (became a fan then).

After junior year - probably "should have" gone to a summer research program, but couldn't find anything in Houston, and wanted to stay there with my boyfriend. Was too tired from school anyway. Worked three jobs on campus which added up to full-time. Some of them were quite nice and easy, like Rocketman95's. Others involved collecting and sorting data down in a quiet basement room. Pretty relaxing (except for that b!tch I worked for in the Economics dept., but that was only 2 hours a day). Watched second championship run.

Grad school - on research assistantships every summer, so life didn't change a whole lot. Most science graduate programs just involve doing research all day anyway.

Pretty much every summer: has been more boring than the school year. A lot of people are gone and there's not as much stuff going on. This is true even being one of the faculty. Right now, a lot of them are embarking on long summer trips out of town, or just getting ready to go home and work in the garden and sit on their butts. Not me; I teach and do research all year round.

For the last 4years I have been flying to Saudi to visit friends and family and work for a few months.

I normally fly back to see my family and then we fly off to Asia or Europe and then back to the USA for a while. This summer I am heading back to Saudi for a month and a half, and then coming back to Tx for a week or so then I am off to a resort down in Mexico for month and then to Bolivia for a few weeks.


Oh yeah! My summer starts at 2:15pm tomorow "officially" !!!

I am flying to SA on the 16th. Going to miss the nice mild temperatures here in Tx.

 

Most summers, go visti my parents, or go down to houston... but back when i lived in houston, go visit grandparents, or just do a little bit of everything... work, play sports, swim, movies(sneaking in made it that much more fun), and lately just chilll, but this summer ill be going to like 5 different countries to visit and to just travel... ive heard the summer before freshman year in college is the last time you actually get time off in life... so im gunna enjoy it.

ho-ly **** bro. i do nearly the exact same thing here at good ole SWT. i work at the computer lab in MCS. hands down, easiest job i ever had in my entire life. i'm "working" right now. i spend most of my monday night shift across the street at the tavern. i literally get paid to 1)study, 2)look at questionable material on the net, 3)go to the bar or, 4)skip work entirely. hell, the only reason i aint at the tavern right now is cuz im broke. and now that i mention it, the only reason i'm broke is cuz i'm always at the tavern. and now i'm off topic.
