(A piece of after game wrap up from a chinese reporter. I translate it in case some guys might be interested to know the
bright side of Yao's missing the camp :)

From day one the doubt about the necessity for Yao to play the Asia Basketball Championship has never ceased for a moment. Does it make sense to exhaust an already exhausted player to play in a low level tourney? But now it seems the doubt no longer presents itself as a doubt for Yao. Instead this previously doubtful journey finally proved to serve two purposes: a sweet revenge against Korea Team for his national team and an improvement for himself.

¡°I finally reached the real meaning of ¡®early offense¡¯¡±, Yao said, ¡°I couldn¡¯t get satisfied output every time I tried before, but through the long time practice recently in the national team, it strikes me all of a sudden. Now I have THE feeling now. Once I land on the best offensive position and prepare myself for the offense, I shall be stopped by no one.¡±

When playing against the former Asian Runner-up Lebanon, Yao¡¯s rival center was an experienced veteran and it¡¯s the third year in a row they played against each other. He knows Yao well enough to get outside to avoid Yao on the offense end and fight hard for the position on the defense end. Unfortunately Yao still got an edge on him by being versatile. He showed up for 35 mins and left with 33 points and field goal 63.2%. And a Championship score record was born.

The semi final against Qatar took on a different look. Qatarians got pretty physical when multi-teaming Yao. 23 mins on the court left him a poor 16 points and a record low 6 rebounds. But Yao still showed his talent to read the game. Challenged by a 2.08 metre tall Qatar center, Yao wasted no time to practise his hook skill. ¡°I can feel the strength from my wrists have definitely improved. With more strength in the wrists, I get more confident when shooting the ball and my motion less noticeable than before,¡± Yao commented after the game.

Another Japanese center has magnificently quick moves. Yao¡¯s first one to one contact with him was a quick turning round back door shooting. In no time the Japanese began to show their respect by triple teaming him, but Yao tried the turning around and shooting trick again and again. It seemed quick moving rival players just made Yao determined to be a quicker mover. In this game he scored 18 points out of 16 attempts and grabbed a record high 21 rebound.

Every Asian center is equipped with some particular expertise. When playing against these totally skillfully diversifed rivals, Yao is required to read the game quickly and stay prepared for different offense technique all the time. The moment he gets the ball should he launch the most proper and most effective attack in a flash of mind. Yao did a good job in the Asian court. He has improved by getting more versatile around the basket and perfecting his skill at the same time. ¡°The journey back is not a waste of time, and I feel good,¡± Yao is happy.
