What could be the reason why my internet keeps cutting off?

Is it that Comast just sucks THAT much balls?

Or could it be something else?

Never really had any problems with my internet cutting off before besides the occasional router reset. But I been having this problem a couple of times recently and it been annoying as hell. Had to reset the modem a hand full of times already. I'm wondering if they gave me a crappy modem. I'm just thinking about switching to another cable provider but I don't have many other options in my area. Is Charter any better? I remember having it years ago and I never had problems with them.

Last ISP I had was AT&T and it was much better than this... Any suggestions?

It would appear as though you've made an error as to the proper forum for posting this topic, sir.

Try to ping some websites to see if your connection is timing out.
You mentioned you have a router, plug it in directly to a computer to verify you're getting the same issue.

    Try these command prompts

    ipconfig/release
    ipconfig/renew
    ipconfig /flushdns

    netsh winsock reset

If you are in Houston, just switch to U-Verse and thank me later.

I guess you don't hang out in the Hangout very often. Dump Comcast, get U-Verse then join the Clutchfans choir.

    What should you do?

Should you admit you posted in the wrong forum?

I'm pretty sure it's my modem that's giving the problem, not the router. When it cuts off the lights on the front of the modem goes to one. I'll try your tips and see if I can find something.

Comcast sucks. My mom has it, and the router they gave her always messed up. Get a d-link and pray for the best.

Ah, well if the lights on the modem do that, my tips probably wont do anything.
Call Comcast and ask to speak to a senior tech, some of them have the ability to test your lines via the computer, they can check for intermittent sync. Have you tried moving that modem to a different cable jack in your house?

no haven't tried that yet. problem is b/c my set up is in my living room. I have a cable jack on the opposite wall but I don't wanna move all my stuff around.

one note though. it usually only happens when I'm on my 360, sob. what gives?

Also if you do determine it's the modem, don't get a modem from Comcast, look at your bill, you're paying a lease fee. Go to walmart and by the Motorola Surfboard modem. Comcast can't deny that they can't put it on the network, you can provide them with the proper documentation on the bottom of that modem. You might have to set it up, but if you're semi-tech savvy it shouldn't be an issue.

Also, is your xbox hardwired to the back of the router via ethernet? Or is it on Wireless?

It's wired to my router. And for some reason when I go on that ping test website the test never goes through and I can't type when that tab is open(some kinda bug?). I used that site before but I can't get it to work.

it might mean that youre not getting enough bandwith to operate both due to a faulty modem or even a faulty splitter on the cable line. xbox live is a bandwith hog,, so if it does not recieve enough data within a certain period of time it times out creating the false idea that theres no internet connection or intermitent
