I think the reason behind these numbers is that Chuck Hayes is used very specifically, eg deliberatly put in to stop people like Nowitzki or Aldridge (they both torchde Scola and Landry before Hayes got put on), so his +/- stats should be slightly inflated, while Yao and Landry are put in no matter what. Anybody have Scola's numbers?

Hayes is a good rebounder... Scola is not... Yao is really important on the court even if he is not producing. Offensive rebounds are weakness for this team and unfortunately the only one decent at grabbing it is an undersized 4 that would have trouble putting it back up. I still think Yao has something going on. He is playing his game...just slower (even by Yao's standard). Sure his confidence is rattled but he still hit that clutch shot in the Blazers game. We need to do things to help Yao. Quick hits when he gets position and open 15 footers off pick and rolls (Tmac). We need to hit the open jumper on the collapse and kick out (rafer and artest). He is missing give aways...but not for a lack of skill...just a lack of physical aptitude right now. I am rooting for the big guy...this chart shows that despite struggling through a few games...he is still very important in terms of defense and rebounds. 55% shooting when he is out of the game (we need Deke).

Maybe you're looking at the wrong chart.

Any thoughts on why the team has performed so poorly while Landry have been on the court? It's early, but that's a pretty huge difference for a guy who plays roughly half of the game.

I think what stands out to me the most from 82games is how Brooks is by far our offensive MVP right now, and how incredibly bad we look on defense when Artest is not on the court (126.7 pts/100 pp). It also proves my point that Head is easily the worst player on this team and should not be getting any minutes unless there are severe injuries forcing the issue ... and even then, Rick might want to look at Wafer first. We might have had a fighting chance at the Lakers if Head had remained glued to the bench where he belonged -- instead, no thanks to that sub we had Ariza grabbing offensive rebound after offensive rebound.

The other stats ... I think are in flux. Chuck Hayes' numbers are nothing new, and I expect to see improvement from Yao and McGrady as the season progresses.

    Yeah.
1\ When Yao out, we allowed opponent EFG% from 44.2% to 55.9% and our defensive rebounding % was down from 70.9% to 61.8%. That's too much to contain.
Front court is weak by now, we really need Deke back asap.
And Deke was good when pair with Scola and Landry last season.
2\ Hayes really help our O and D a lot even he is blowing layups and cant make FTs. He is the PF who pairs with Yao better.

I'm not sure I'd say he helps out offensively. In fact, I'm certain he does not in general. Adelman will keep him in the game as long as his impact on defense overshadows what he's not able to do on offense. When that starts to swing, he gets subbed out. Like others have said, that can skew his On/Off numbers.

How is it possible that Luis Scola has such a terrible defensive On/Off rating, while Yao's is so good? Doesn't Scola play the majority of his minutes with the starters?

Scola has been playing less minutes with the starters in the second half. That has been when we make our runs and when Carl/Chuck have been getting more minutes.

That would be my guess. Scola is on the court during the slow starts.

I dont know why we shoot better while Hayes on.

Check Charles Hayes's Top Five-Man Floor Units.
#2,#3,#7, when he and Yao both on court, they had 36 +-points in 33mins with above 50% eFG and below 40% eFGA.

Hayes is pretty good at setting picks away from the ball. That opens up some shooters. Offense isn't always limited to what happens with the ball.

Lots of stats are skewed. That is why it is better to make judgments with your eyes and not numbers. There are just too many things that factor in a game and don't show up on the stats sheet. But to answer your question, Scola is the worst defender out of our 3 PFs.

bravo, that's why tmac made the 04-05 team so great. he drove and kicked, but we were a much better 3 point shooting team then. we just aren't moving on offense, it's so frustrating because it's so obvious, yet it continues every game. i think alot of things could be fixed if aldeman just got it through our starters heads that they cant stand around if they expect to run his offense correctly, that's the complete opposite of what his offense involves

Well one example is, there is nothing Yao can do when Scola gets scored on by jumpers (e.g. Gasol).

Scola also at least has played center w/the second unit in two games, that probably should also be considered.

When Yao, Tmac and Artest are all on the floor, we need defense and reboudning. Chuck fits the situation better than Scola.
