In the ongoing effort to learn more about fellow Rockets fans (and read something other than the latest fraudulent Cato/Oliver Miller sightings, the Astros--yawn, no offense, and political discussions-- again, yawn...), I thought I'd ask what you people are reading these days. Unfortunately, my usual reading has been put on hold because of classes. (Two english courses tends to load down the free time) Right now I'm working on The House of Mirth and Madame Bovary.
I've been reading "Placing Shadows: Lighting Techniques for Video Production". Exciting stuff, I must say.
I'm reading something silly... just to get my mind off recent events...It's a Hillerman novel, The Dark Wind. Hillerman writes fiction that takes place in the American southwest, usually having lots Native American references and situations. I'm also reading a bio on Paul McCartney. Good stuff with quotes from him and rare pics. rH

I'm reading the Beatles anthology that I got last Christmas... It's very huge.. but also very very interesting.
Just got done with "The Man from St. Petersburg" by Ken Follet. Now I am reading "The Third Option" by Vince Flynn...it's about the assasination attempt of Saddam Hussein by the American CIA. Of course, we know that never happened. Good reading though.
currently about to finish the sun also rises by hemigway...yawn...this book blows and im only reading it cause another poster recommended it. i give it two thumbs down...after this i think i might turn back to maxim and stuff...which i might add come to me free cause my sisters old roomate had a subscription and never changed the address for it when he moved...i rock... so i need some GOOD recommendations...
Currently reading: Unix Using Linux and Programming in VB 6 and a Course Tech book set on Win2k pro and server. and for lite reading (and highly recommended): In The Beginning Was The Command Line from Neal Stephenson. Space Ghost, I haven't seen the House Harkonnen book. Is it part of the original Dune saga? I have read all the ones from Dune to Chapterhouse Dune Did I somehow manage to miss that one or was it released recently?

Sun Tzu, The Art of War. Sorry you don't like Hemmingway red. If your main reading source is Maxim magazine, I can see where he wouldn't be up your alley. Alot of us here like his work, though.

Haven, what do you think of it so far? I started it a while back but it seemed like it was just gonna be Bonfire of the Vanities all over again. I like that book but I didn't wanna read it again just with different names. Was that impression wrong (at least in your slanted liberal opinion)?
I'm reading a couple of science books right now and I highly recommend both. The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins, is a great book explaining a lot of behaviour and how it all comes back to gene propagation. It's really interesting reading about how otherwise-altruistic acts can be shown to represent the genes' best interests. Also, for anyone interested in theories of cognition, creativity, or philosphy, I cannot recommend Godel, Escher, Back : An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hoftstadter highly enough. A very fascinating book that takes a while to absorb but is very much worth the effort.

Hehe in a sense, you have missed 3 ... you're about 2 years behind. His son, Brian Herbert made a 3 book prequel. Dune: House Atreties(2 years old) Dune: House Harkkonen(1 year old) Dune: House Corrino (due to release this month) This goes over the history of each of the Houses and the characters in Dune. IMO, they are VERY good books. Im listening to Children of Dune right now on Books on Tape (too boring to read) IMO, its not as good as DUNE, but better than the other 5 sequels.
As one who isn't particularly inclined to reading, I'm currently not reading anything outside of textbooks for my classes. But if I did start reading a book, it would most definitely be "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking. I actually got through about 30 pages 4 years ago but then stopped. I ain't stopping next time I start. That stuff is straight down my alley.
