This thread is for dream casters only! The Rockets have played better & better in the last 4-5 games. They're coming together as a team, much the same way they did in the last 20 games last year. So, my question is, does anyone think that the Rockets will make another blockbuster trade this year, like they have for the last 4 years or should they even consider it? Obviously they are not afraid to pull the trigger on one if it benefits the team. With the December 15 deadline passed, anything is possible. Cato's coming back & if he can play anywhere near his potential, Dream is sure to lose some of his minutes, which he has already complained about not getting enough of. By the way, I'm against trading Dream unless HE wants to go elsewhere. The cap space that he will provide next year will help us to resign our guys & those teams that want to pursue Webber or Finley. The only reason that I mention Dream is because of his age & our up tempo offense. He's offered the organization the chance to make the move with no hard feelings on his part. If not Dream, then who do you think they might trade & for whom? The guards are awesome & seem to me to be the only untouchable part of the team. Having said that, Moochie's trade value should be skyrocketing about now. The center position seems to be the weakest part at the moment, but if Cato can contribute like we all believe he can & Collier comes back, then it becomes a little more stable. All right, I've rambled on long enough. What big trade do you think that the Rockets might be looking to make this year if any? I would think that you would have to consider teams that want the cap space first & then teams making a run at the title that could offer us a key player or two & picks without gutting their team. The trade has to be beneficial to the Rockets for the future. Where can we improve? ------------------
I don't want to trade any Houston Rockets players because they are all playing well. ------------------
None! Let's stick with this team we have this year. Just sign in some free agents. ------------------ You either live the dream or you become a dream.
houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,333,333 to miami (BYC Value $2,666,667) houston trades: Carlos Rogers $2,200,000 to miami TOTAL: $7,533,333 miami trades: Anthony Mason $5,553,900 to houston miami trades: Ricky Davis $939,360 to houston TOTAL: $6,493,260 TRADE ACCEPTED What do you guys think of this trade? As most of us don't think that cato is our answer at the 5, we would get rid of both his and rogers salary freeing up more cap for next year, would solve our problems at the 3 and would adress rebounding with Mason, and Ricky davis is a tradable commodity. If Mason doesn't work out, his contract is on his last year, freeing up even MORE cap. Miami is desperate for front court help. I think they would go for it. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
no, this leaves us with only dream at center, and if he gets injured, we're screwed. mason, motaylor, and KT would create a huge log jam at pf. the only upside, ive always loved ricky davis, i think he'd be a nice addition ------------------ people who are related dont have to look alike. my mom and dad dont resemble each other at all
Hotoddie-- As you previously stated, you said that the guards are untouchable. That being said, how many of you could see us trading Shandon? While he has had the EXCEPTIONal game, do you think another team could use him much better than us? And if so, could anyone see us pulling the trigger on a trade involving him? How happy is he in Houston? And if so, for whom? ------------------ Jazzkiller
This is just my opinion, no sources or anything, but I dont think the Rockets will see any major action on the trade front during the season. I feel they will evaluate Cato and make a conclusion on whether or not Cato and Collier can be the center tandem for this team. Trading Hakeem at this stage and still conserving some cap room will be near to impossible due to his extremely large salary. If Hakeem ok'd it and they could make it work on the cap, I think the Rockets would welcome a trade of Hakeem to Indiana for Croshere. Austin fits this team really well, and the Rockets could put him at the 4 with three guards for stretches when they wanted a tempo change. Also, if they wanted to go big, they could put Croshere back at the 3. However, as has been stated, this type of deal wont work on the cap now, but I could see it being explored in the offseason in a possible sign and trade manner. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
The best choice would be to somehow trade for Antonio Davis. He's athletic, loves to play D, rebound and block shots. Maybe we can trade Cato and Walt for him. Also, I'm aware that AD is 31, but why does everyone on our team HAVE to be young? ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I think Mutombo will be traded probably to New York or Milwaukee. Milwaukee might also inquire about the availability of The Dream although I hope he stays. ------------------
The center position is hardly the problem. We still need more help at small forward more than any other because Walt isn't playing that well and he doesnt even a true backup. I don't think Rudy is going to trade anybody, especially since they have been gelling really well. The only thing I can see happening within the next year is either picking up a small forward from free agency or from the draft. ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000
I definately think anderson is gonna be leaving. Ive said it since pre season. but now I think it would do more than just help Houston. I think Anderson needs a change. he needs to start fresh somewhere new. truthfully i think the kings could use him. he is better than cristie. but I hate cristie. the kings wont be making any moves though. I say send him to clipperland for miles in 3 years thats a trade that would pay off. well these are the musings of an idle mind. Even in a dreamcasting thread, I don't like to speculate too much. I get reminded that I go overboard. Shandon may very well leave. Cat wants to start, and he's freezing out Anderson in the process of trying to reach the All-Star game. If you can find a team needing a starting 2 and a center, then you can dreamcast Shandon and Dream in that direction. I don't want to trade Dream but sometimes Rudy plays him (or doesn't play him) as if he fears the 37 year-old center will sustain an injury and therefore can't be traded to anyone. Why was he out during the 4th quarter in the last game? A veteran wanting minutes and to feel a sense of belonging gets planted on the bench? Granted, Moochie saved us, but Hakeem benched and Moochie playing makes you wonder. But that's for a "what is Rudy thinking??!!" thread. ------------------
Thanos, I like your proposal. It helps both teams. The Rockets have been doing just fine without Cato & from what I understand Mason would help us immediately. Although, Cato's shot blocking abilities would be nice to have around, sometimes you have to give up a little depth in order to upgrade your starting 5. By the way, doesn't Mason play the small forward position also? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Hottoddie (edited December 16, 2000).]
How about Philly, they appear to be a center away from being a serious contender. Anyone think we could steal Ratliff from them? What about Boston? Pierce would be the perfect SF for us. I doubt they would consider trading him, but just think about him on our team. How about Clarence Weatherspoon? Would he be worth having? His numbers look better than Taylor's. If we keep Dream, does anyone think we could have a chance to get Finley to play as our SF? The possibilities are limit less. ------------------
What do ya'll think of this 3 way trade proposal? It brings together a couple of different scenarios that I've seen proposed on this BBS. According to RealGM, it works. Houston sends Dream/Taylor to Vancouver Houston sends Cato/LOS to Miami Miami sends Mason/Ricky Davis To Houston Vancouver sends Reeves/Swift/Harrington/TMass to Houston Here's why I think that all the teams might agree: Vancouver gets rid of Reeves big contract & are able to move Othella, which I've been hearing they are trying to do. They get valuable cap space & the deals only cost to them, is giving up Swift. I don't think we should have to, but we could throw in a #1 pick to soften the loss. Miami needs a center to replace ZO & Rogers would add depth (it's also the only way the deal works with Cato's BYC. BYC's suck!). Houston gets a solid SF in Mason, Swift with all of his potential, Othella who can rebound, TMass for depth, Reeves because we have to, to get Vancouver to go for it, & Davis (refer back to the BYC comment). Davis is injured right now, so we wouldn't have to make a decision about the over abundance of guards just yet. What do you guys think? Could this work as is or how could it be improved? Or, does it just suck? ------------------
I wouldnt do that deal because I dont think we need any more role players. We have some already that are very good--KT, Moochie, Bullard, etc. If were going to trade away Olajuwon and Shanderson, we should get an impact player in my opinion, at least a starter (and not a crappy one) or its not worth it. Maybe someone can work something out with Indiana. They seem like they could use a true center to allow Oneal to play PF and they are not to pleased with Croshere's performance so far and we might be able to get something else, ala a bender or harrington out of them. Maybe someone can find deal with them that works ------------------ "There are some frauds so well conducted that it would be stupidity not to be deceived by them." Charles Caleb Colton (1780-1832)
