    It's that time again....another Manny music thread!! :p ;)

This is a topic that has probably been done before, but it has been awhile.

What band or artist is one that you feel just kicks ass because they rock so hard??

I have 3 bands in mind as I was giving my eardrums a sonic assault yesterday.

    Those bands are as follows:

    1) Motorhead
    2) Pantera
    3) Sepultura

Motorhead is a band that influenced all the big thrash metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and others. I listened to their "Ace of Spades" CD for what seemed like the hundreth time last night on the way home from school and the last track on it, "Emergency" just absolutely kicks ass when turned up VERY loud.

Pantera is a band that I am so glad that I got into. Dimebag (aka Diamond) Darrell is the greatest guitar riff writer in history, IMO. Not only in my opinion but in Billy Corgan's as well! I read somewhere that Trent Reznor (of NIN) and his producer Flood listened to "Vulgar Display of Power" (outstanding CD) for every day for like 3 hours for a month or two months to study the riffs that Diamond Darrell was doing to prepare for NIN's EP, "Broken" (which is his heaviest and angriest and maybe his best even if it is an EP). For 2 guys like Corgan and Reznor, who I admire greatly, to feel that way about Dimebag speaks volumes, IMO.

Finally, there is good old Sepultura. It is a shame that Max Cavalera has left them to lead Soulfly (I have not gotten anything by them and I don't know if I will). They remind me alot of Pantera and their lead guitar player, Andreas Kisser, is one of the great unknown guitar players out there, IMO. All of their old stuff is good but I have been listening to "Chaos A.D." and "Roots" of late with "Arise" on its way. The drumming is a little more tribal, especially on "Roots" but it is definitely a kick-ass CD.

Honorable mentions include early Metallica (first 4 CDs), Slayer (for "Reign of Blood" alone), and of course an oldie but a goodie in AC/DC (have "Back in Black" in my car CD player now).

I'm curious to see who Freak, RocketsPimp, Rockets2K, Lynus, Raven, etc. pick as their choices.

I pretty much have completely traded in all of my old heavy metal CD's when I got to college. That includes band like Pantera, Sepultura, Prong, Biohazard, etc. After a while I just started losing interest. But, there's still a couple holdovers I like, and some new bands that rock kind of hard. Although none of them are as noisy ( :D ) as the ones you listed.

Helmet is probably the only heavy metal band that I still listen to...and calling them metal might be a bit of a stretch. Also, I still listen to my Rage CD's sometimes, as well as Korn.

    New bands that rock:
    1. Queens of the Stone Age
    2. At the Drive-In/Sparta (from El Paso of all places)
    3. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (I assume you Austinites are aware of them?)

I saw Trail of Dead open for Superchunk back when I didn't even know who they were. I have never seen a band beat the drums or play guitar as hard and wild as them. And it just so happens that I'm seeing them open up for Queens of the Stonge Age this Friday. That show will kick major ass.! Dave Grohl plays drums for the Queens and Mark Lanegan (singer of Screaming Trees) plays guitar.

    I'd rate them like this:

    1. Sepultura -- Chaos A.D. ruled. "The Hunt" is one of my favorite metal songs ever.

    2. Pantera -- "RE! ... SPECT! ... WALK!"

    3. Motorhead -- Just a teensy bit overrated. "Ace of Spades" kicks butt, though. "Animal House" is okay too.

'Slayer' is another good one. 'Carcass' has a couple of decent songs.

I'm just going with a few choice songs here....

    Pantera --
On "Vulgar Display of Power," F*cking Hostile is one of the most "gets me fired up" songs I've ever heard.

    Sepultura --
"Chaos A.D." just rocks the whole way through. Refuse/Resist, Propaganda, and Nomad are my three of my absolute favorites. Kaiowas is a great track as well. Sepultura's cover of Motorheads Orgasmatron on the "Arise" CD (thanks Manny....I couldn't remember the name of that one) rocks so hard its ridiculous.

    Motley Crue --
Oh yeah time for one of my old favorites:
It is highly advisable that you NOT be on the same road as me when I'm listening to their cover of the Sex Pistols Anarchy in the U.K. You've been warned. That song makes me haul ass.

    Black Sabbath --
I can't not include these guys. On their self-titled first album, The Wizard is one of my absolutely most-favorite songs of all time. Hell, I love anything by Ozzy-lead Sabbath, and solo-Ozzy, but The Wizard is one that really stands out in my mind as one of their best and one of my all-time favorites.

Bad Brains first 2 albums (the eponymous ROIR album and Rock For Light) is probably the most ferocious hardcore ever released. The only thing that holds them back is that their recordings sound pretty crappy.

    Other choices:

    Motorhead
    the Stooges
    Fugazi

Just a few albums/songs I think tear it up, in no particular order:

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell - The Art of Shredding

System of a Down - Toxicity - Prison Song
    also Shame (ft Wu-Tang)

Prong - Cleansing - Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck

    Metallica - Kill 'em All

Judas Priest - Breaking The Law

    Anthrax - Time

Iron Maiden - whew, too many songs to name

Fight - War of Words - entire album rocks right from the beginning. probably the second hardest/toughest concert I've ever been to(first being System of a Down)

other bands....Megadeth, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Danzig, Down, Suicidal Tendencies, etc.

gotta go back to work now.....rock on Manny!

    It will be insane :D

Hmmm, as always, you throw me for a loop.;)

I was expecting you to say somebody else; however, I have noticed that you really like the Toadies. They seem to be a band that I need to explore farther.

What can you tell me about them, Freak??

Like what other bands are they like, and best albums plus best starter albums...
