Which bands/concerts would you go back in time to see? For me, my top three would be: The second Lollapalooza - 1992: Red Hot Chili Peppers (before they became the Lukewarm Chili Peppers), Ice Cube, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Cypruss Hill, House of Pain, STP. It's pretty much the soundtrack to my high school years. Rolling Stones - 1973: Right after they released Exile on Main St. The weed would no doubt be flowing like water... Metallica - 1991: I wouldn't have to listen to any of their crap after The Black Album
Off the top of my head.... Pink Floyd (with Roger Waters) - the Wall - Dark Side of the Moon - Wish you Were Here - Animals Led Zeppelin (anything, really) Stevie Ray Vaughan (anything) Mozart, Beethoven, Bach (and misc. other classical) U2 live at Red Rocks Woodstock (the original)
Geez, way too many for me to list! I would have definitely loved to have seen these acts in their prime: Jimi Hendrix Experience Cream The Byrds The Band Bob Dylan Neil Young David Bowie Leonard Cohen Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Genesis Yes The Smiths The Who Roxy Music
Cypress Hill, House of Pain and STP didn't play at this one. The other bands were Lush, Jesus & Mary Chain and Ministry. I know - I was there at the front of the stage. I hate most big shows because the sound is so bad, so I'd rather see any great band at their peaks in a small club with a good PA system.
The Who The Clash The Sex Pistols The Smiths The Kinks(I saw them in the early 80's and it was great. I would've liked to ahve seen them even earlier) The Rolling Stones X Roxy Music Talking Heads Velvet Underground Jimmy Hendrix The Replacements Husker Du The Damned I would have loved to have been at the Savoy the night when Chick Webb's band competed against Count Basie's band. That's the night Stompin' at the Savoy was based on. The Beatles Madness The Specials
Sorry Manny, I'm sure this gets old , but I saw every one of them, except The Smiths, multiple times. My fantasy would be seeing the Beatles together in concert during their last tour, after they had done Rubber Soul and recorded Revolver. That would have been so cool.
Actually one concert can do the trick...Woodstock. But if we're talking about a couple of particular shows, well give me Genesis' Lamp Lies Down On Broadway...again, the Deep Purple and Murasaki jam and an evening listening to Sony Terry & Brownie McGee. Yep, that would make me happy.
Woodstock - 1969 Monterrey Pop Festival - 1967 Led Zeppelin - any time before Bonzo died. Gimme the '77 U.S. tour. Mozart - October 29, 1787. Prague. The premiere of Don Giovanni. September 30, 1791. Vienna, Austria: The premiere of Die Zauberflöte, aka The Magic Flute. Herr Mozart himself conducted, and died three months later in December.
I was fortunate enough to see the Velvet Underground open for U2 in Paris. It was some sort of European Reunion Tour. I happened to be in Paris and saw the U2 posters but didn't think about going as I'd seen the same show in the Astrodome. When we (my sister and I) realized the VU were opening (actually Belly opened, then the Velvets) we had to go. From some VU Bootleg Site site: June 26, 1993 Hippodrome de Vincennes, Paris, France ticket With Belly, supporting U2. Tracklist: 1. Sweet Jane 2. Venus In Furs 3. Some Kinda Love 4. All Tomorrow´s Parties 5. I'm Sticking With You 6. Hey Mr. Rain 7. Heroin 8. White Light/White Heat 9. Rock and Roll
i went to #1 - i was pissed the frusciante had just quit. but duck soup played! i really wanted to go the first one, but if you remember they skipped houston in favor of dallas. my parents were lame and wouldnt let me go even though i was 16. i never saw janes addiction. and janes w/out eric avery is not janes so all those reunion shows dont count! i would pick the 1967 monterrey pop festival where hendrix made his big american splash - humped his amp and lit his strat on fire. plus simon and garfunkel, the animals, the who, the byrds, otis redding, ravi shankar, big bro and holding co, buff springfield, the dead, mamas and papas - an all time-lineup. miles davis quintet w/ coltraine and philly jo jones on the drums - OUCH!!! in some nyc club in the mid 50's. the last waltz. the factory - late 80's - new order or happy mondays. lots of e would be involved, of course. van halen in a bar in the mid-70's.
Alot of good picks on that list. I saw Yes in the old Houston Coliseum. And I saw Led Zeppelin in the Summit(I believe) back in about '77. Alot of people were dissapointed in the Led Zeppelin Concert, because they played a bunch of old blues songs and left out alot of their big hits.
Buddy Holly Beatles Hendrix Led Zep Who circa 1970 Parliament And... Count Basie Charlie Parker any number of Blues legends
Queen during the Jazz tour Led Zeppelin on the Houses of the Holy tour King Crimson supporting the Red LP Paul Simon in Central Park The Clash on theitr London Calling tour The Who supporting Who's Next Boomtown Rats Kiss on the Destroyer tour Thin Lizzy JAILBREAK! Put me 6 feet down after that!
