Personally, I have a ton of optimism (nothing new for me) about our prospects for next year. Offense: Although JVG doesn't bode well for it, I would love to see the Rox run more than they have in the past few seasons. We have so many speedsters that if someone is able to teach the guys how to move the ball up on the pass, we have guys that can finish on the break (SF, Cat, Posey, and Griff is always on the wing ahead of everybody). After we try the fast break, it is half court time, and this is where JVG has had success. I am confident that Yao will get the calls he got rook-screwed out of this year. I am hopeful that he will develop his upper body some in the offseason and I am excited that we may have someone of Ewings caliber to teach Yao, Cato, Griff, and MoT how to play like a big. JVG also has experience running a team with 2 perimeter scorers (Houston, Spree) in the backcourt with a talented big inside. Add to that the fact that Spree was a spoiled rotten crybaby who had spent a year out of the league because he CHOKED HIS COACH and you see that JVG has experience dealing with selfish players. I think he will get the backcourt in shape and ready to play more unselfish ball in order to win. Defense: This is where JVG earned his stripes in my eyes. He was able to take a team that was not exactly the leader in talent to the finals. He did this by teaching his players to play hard nosed team defense on every possession. I was impressed with the way Cat turned up his defense in the last 10-15 games of the year and I think he will continue to flourish defensively under JVG. I believe that we will also see the emergence of Griff this year, especially defensively. JVG will see to it and will turn Yao and Eddie into the Great Wall in Houston. Can you tell that I am excited? I would also like to see a free agent signing, Payton, Arenas, Kidd, and others are available. I would love to see us pick up a better than acceptable PG so that we can move SF to the 2.
