What Skill would you be most interested in learning if you had the time? [Even if you don't have an aptitude for it] I would like to learn to play the keyboards but I generally don't feel I have the time. It is one of many interests that I cannot seem to cram into my 24 hrs a day. Rocket River
Things I want to learn change usually with the seasons.... I would love to learn to fish at the level of a professional bass fisherman. This summer, my quest begins....
I want to learn to play the guitar, and I do have some musical aptitude. I'd like to learn French. I took 5 years of Latin and can read a lot of French, but I want to be able to speak it. I have a Math degree, but I've been meaning to learn Modern Algebra since I graduated 12 years ago.
I wish I had the patience to learn to play the piano or the guitar. Sadly, at my relatively advance age, this frustrated wannabe rock/blues/jazz star has to be content to be a huge music fan. I know myself too well to think I could take it up this late in the game. My 13 year old daughter is busy doing what I should have done at her age... learning to play the guitar and getting pretty good very quickly. Maybe it was in my genes and I just didn't give myself a decent chance. I still think I have a couple of novels in me. I write, but have a long way to go.
I'd like to play an instrument and get some sorta karate belt in the next 3 years. Actually, I promised my wife I would. Why? Because I would love my daughters to want to 1) want to learn an instrument 2) know how to kick dude's asses I start karate in two weeks. I bet I'll be the oldest person in the class.
I would like to be able to dabble in music, like playing the keyboard. I'd like to become fluent in French. I'd like to read all the classics I've never read. I'd love to write a story that I'm proud about. I'd like to learn how to be sociable and charming on the phone (mostly because I will need that skill for my job). I'd like to learn to not be so obsessed with basketball, so I can have a life.
I have been learning Guitar for the past 6 months and thats been pretty rewarding. I should take some lessons some day.
that's the way i feel towards my mediocre piano ability as it currently stands.. i picked it up a tad bit late.. though being a quite apt classical guitarist among other genres attuned to it's electric alternative.. is a decent consolation.. as far as playing musical instruments go.. and being diversely and more completely "gifted" in all areas of music.. helps as well.. seems you trail me in these two areas.. just now peaking out of my mid twenties.. i mention it only in realization that as often as i sort've envied your experiences of the late 50's, 60's and 70's musical revolutions of life.. first hand.. there are some things in this area.. where you don't have the unfair edge in..
Did you not have to take Modern Algebra to get the degree or did you not really learn it when you took it? Just curious. As far as I go ... I have a ton I want to learn. - read the classics, then go back to contemporary stuff - beef up on my knowledge of history - learn spanish(don't think I'm that far away if I would actually practice it) - philosophy/theology - guitar playing would be nice, but I don't think I have the time or patience I'm sure I'm just scratching the surface, but those are what come immediately to mind.
