You read the title, you know what's up. Also, if you are a dad with young kids who can't get you gifts yet and because in the real world, $1.00 gift cards from the Men's Wearhouse don't cut it, what are you getting yourself in the name of your kid(s) and their college fund:D

I'm getting my dad the Dirty Harry DVD collection.

Since I will be a father someday, I already picked up the new Extreme T2 DVD for myself:)

My ol' man isn't about gifts, he's more about get togethers. We're all gathering at my sisters place and having an all day BBQ for him.

I gave up on buying my Dad anything for any holiday several years ago. He never seemed to appreciate what I got him even though I went to great lengths to get something I thought he'd like.

And when I send him cards these days, he never even acknowledges that he gets them (and since his wife hates me and would throw away any card I sent to the house before my father could see it), it's entirely possible that he doesn't get them, though I send them to the office and his office manager is usually pretty good about passing things or messages along from me).

So, I don't bother anymore. Of course, my kids don't usually get me anything, either, though I imagine their step-father will receive something "from them" (but actually purchased without their knowledge by my ex-wife and given under their names). But that's really an ex-wife issue. I don't think you can expect non-adult kids to necessarily remember things like Father's Day and go out (on their bikes, I suppose) and purchase something (and since they aren't in school at this time of year, they don't "make things" in class, which sometimes happens for other holidays).

I don't have or job or an allowance, so I can't really buy my dad anything, though he probably wouldn't really care for gifts. So instead I make him a homeade card on my computer. I put a whole lot of weird stuff in it like a rhino, a giraffe, a gnome, and some funny quotes. Hehe...I remember on mother's day, I put a Jewish quote in there and it really confused my mom but it made her laugh. (BTW, we're not Jewish, if that matters.) Also, if anyone knows who Trog Dor is, I put him in all my cards but I introduced another dragon similar to TD that my friend made in my dad's card.

Basically, I just try to get a laugh out of my dad and family.

My siblings and I got him a $100 gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma. Going out with him for Dim Sum this morning and having a BBQ this evening.

Then hitting the gym at 4AM Monday to start working it all off!

My Dad lives in the Philippines, so I sent him a long email. I wanted to forward him that great fathers day article by Jim Caple, but my Dad isnt really into sports.

But if you guys want to forward it to your Dads.....its fairly clever.
