What does everyone want for Christmas this year?

One thing I want for Christmas:

ESPN is having an auction for Movie Props right here: http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...ytag1=ebayreg&ht=1&si=18370363&combine=y&st=2

Unfortunately it will probably cost upwards of $200. :(

As for the stereo, I'm looking at getting a surround sound system for my apartment. However, I want speakers that provide good movie sound for watching movies AND good music sound for listening to my CD's.

I'm kind of confused. Are those 6-speaker dolby digital surround sound systems really meant for listening to music? I ask because those speakers are so tiny! I'm wondering if I should get the surround sound system to hook up to my TV and then get two big, booming speakers to hook up to my CD player.

In my dreams!

You're post would make an audiophile cringe.
If you "dream" of that Sony system, then I can only imagine what you'll settle for. Good sound is a bit pricey. Speaker technology is quite different than compnent technology, and typically, most of the rack system builders don't make the best speakers. For that matter, they don't make the best components. I wouldn't consider a sony receiver unless it was an ES. They simply don't have enough "beef" to really pump out that 100 WPC that most of them claim they have.

Personally, I'd start putting a system together slowly. Start with a good used receiver and a good pair of speakers that you like. you can build out from there. There's just too much to tell you, and I don't have the time this morning. What's generally considered to be "good" sound would be a complete paradigm shift from the thoughts of a Sony dreamsystem.

Fortunately, there are bbs's just like this that can help you. I suggest you hang out at one for a while. I really like the forum at www.klipsch.com. Granted, they are somewhat skewed in their opinions towards Klipsh, but that's OK, Klipsch makes one of the best speakers out there for the money.

If you want a great new receiver for the money, go to www.outlawaudio.com.

I got this at Grapevine Mills yesterday from my dad:

Its a really cool CD/DVD holder, it was kind of pricey, though.

My dad is probably going to get me a Microfridge for my dorm room for XMas and maybe one or two other small things.

My mom is gonna give me $$$ and Candy!
